Commitments the Scope The KIN4 organizer requested participating local governments to establish a specific and achievable commitment. A set of measurable goals Addressing one or more areas of urban environmental issues alongside with social and economic challenges To be achieved within a given timeframe (by 2010) KI Secretariat is committed To monitor the progress and fully recognize the achievements in future KIN events. To make best efforts to mobilize assistance for achieving the commitments.
Commitments - the Response Commitments were communicated by 12 participating cities, i.e. Bangkok, Bago, Cebu, Kathumandu, Kitakyushu, Nonthaburi, Puerto Princesa, San Fernando, Sibu, Surabaya, Weihai, Ulsan Agreed to play key roles in promoting environmental stewardship in their cities and building mutual support and cooperation amongst cities in AP Region
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Solid Waste Management Reduction by 30% Promotion of waste segregation and recycling, through BMA to develop institutions (a committee, district offices) and activity/education centres A range of activities (Solid waste bank, market fairs, donation of recyclables) People s accountability /cooperation, Handbook and community training /Media campaign Technology promotion (liquid fertilizer, granulated fertilizer)
Bago, Philippines Solid Waste Management - Reduction by 60% Raising the level of stakeholder awareness / support Promotion of waste segregation and recycling, through City Government to institutionalize an information education campaign Capacity building of stakeholders, in partnership with communities and the informal sector Activities in pilot areas for showcasing and replicating success Incentives and support to recycling business in the form of tax exemption and market linkage
