With decades of experience working directly for the defence department, defence prime contractors and their sub-contactors, Nobles is a trusted partner working to build Australia s defence capability. Technical expertise born from experience Nobles is Australia s leading national specialist provider of lifting, rigging and lashing equipment and components, technical services and engineering design. For more than 100 years, the company has played its part in the establishment and ongoing operation of critical maritime defence projects including the Collins Class Submarine and the Air Warfare Destroyer project. Nobles supplies lifting, rigging and lashing products and services across the full defence procurement and operating value chain. For the naval and maritime industries, this means we can be relied upon across every stage of operations: from shipyard construction and operations, to vessel construction and maintenance, to onboard systems and safety, and during sustainment. As an Australian owned and operated company with branches Australia-wide, including in all major state capitals and remote locations, we are positioned to give you the local responsiveness and national expertise you demand. Unique advantages for defence DNV certified and NATA accredited in-house testing facilities All testing conducted in-house without the need for subcontracting In-house team of specialist lifting engineers and technicians - the largest in Australia 1000 tonne destructive load testing bed - the largest in the Southern Hemisphere Australian owned & operated, with global leading products & local expertise

Shipyard construction and operation Documentation and test certificates to verify Australian standards Supporting & servicing the broadest range of mobile, tower and overhead cranes Full safety training program for rigging Lifting equipment and component proof load testing on and off-shore Vessel construction and sustainment Support maintenance for ANZAC frigates Helicopter landing deck fit-out Specialised lifting systems for radar Proof loading, testing and certification Specialised lifting equipment for gun turrets Onboard systems and safety Zodiac deployment systems Fit-out of helicopter landing deck Lashing systems to eliminate no lash back or whip Delivery of mooring lines and wire rope lifelines

Award winning engineering, to deliver never been done before projects. A world first for the Collins Class. In 2004, Collins Class submarine HMAS Farncomb was undergoing its Full Cycle Docking at ASC s Osborne base. The work included repairs to the 90 tonne electric main motor. It is customary for these repairs to be conducted by cutting off the submarine s aft section and freeing the motor to be worked upon on the shed floor. To avoid the significant expense and potential time extension to the FCD, ASC decided to repair the motor in situ a first for the Collins class fleet. The tight confines and awkward internal structure of the submarine meant an innovative lifting solution was required to hoist the motor and enable the repairs to be conducted. ASC turned to Nobles, who were already a trusted supplier of wire ropes and lashings. Standard chain blocks with hooks, measuring even 150mm in length, were discounted for taking up too much space. Instead, Nobles in-house team of engineers devised a solution that included reverse engineering the chain block fittings and machining specific end shackles to fit each of the specially sourced 16-tonne chain blocks. These shackles were attached at multiple positions along the sides and front of the motor.

From the initial briefing to implementing the solution took less than three months. As testament to the success and innovation of the in situ motor repairs, the project received an Engineers Australia Excellence Award. The expertise of Nobles in-house engineering team, familiar with all kinds of lifting and rigging equipment (ropes, chains, webbing) meant they could rapidly formulate, assess and narrow down options to provide a feasible solution. With machining, assembly and testing also taking place in-house, Nobles provided a comprehensive end-to-end solution, reducing downtime and ensuring the chain of security.
