FloorClad SCS6-11313 Self-Smoothing Epoxy Polyurethane Floor Topping TECHNICAL DATA SHEET FloorClad SCS6 is supplied as a dry, grey powder which requires only the addition of water to produce a smooth free flowing and self levelling material which can be laid to a feather edge. This provides an ideal fairing material for levelling uneven, in situ or precast concrete floors. FloorClad SCS6 provides a self levelling, cementitious sub floor/ underlay for a wide variety of floor finishes which require a smooth level substrate, such as tiles, carpeting, vinyl sheeting, linoleum, rubber and other sheet flooring. Additionally, it can be used directly on in situ or precast floors to provide smooth level surface without screeding. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Any residual trowel marks may be removed when the screed is dry by rubbing the surface with a carborundum stone Note: The long term durability of any resin floor system is determined by the adhesive bond achieved between the flooring material and the substrate. It is most important therefore that substrates are correctly prepared prior to application. The substrate should have a moisture content of less than 5% and must be at least 3 C above dew point to reduce the risk of condensation or blooming on the floor finish. The ambient relative humidity should notexceed95%. The Minimum substrate temperature +15 C.and Maximum substrate temperature +35 C. The clean, textured surface can be achieved by shot-blasting, Blastrac, scarifying or grit-blasting followed by vacuum cleaning. New concrete floors: These should normally have been placed for at least 28 days Floors should be sound and free from contamination such as oil and grease, mortar and paint splashes or curing compound residues. Excessive laitance can be removed by the use of Mechanical methods. Dust and other debris should then be removed by vacuum cleaning. Old concrete floors Surfaces should be structurally sound direct tensile strength of more than 1.5MPa via a pull off tester with a load rate of 100N/s. The clean substrate is essential to achieve maximum adhesion. As for new concrete floors dry removal of laitance by use of Mechanical methods is preferable. Oil and grease penetration should be removed by the use of a proprietary chemical degreaser or by hot compressed air treatment. Any damaged areas or surface irregularities should be repaired using FloorClad SCS6, epoxy mortar patching compound. SURFACE PREPARATION Steel surfaces Steel surfaces should be degreased and grit blasted to SA 2 ½ immediately prior to application. The prepared surface should than be treated with one coat of FloorClad SCS6, solvent free epoxy primer The purpose of priming is to seal the substrate, to prevent air release from forming bubbles and pinholes in the surface of the FloorClad SCS6. The substrate should be primed using MonoBond SAP. The primer should be applied by brushing it onto the floor with a stiff brush or broom. The application of primer by roller and spray is not recommended. On VDC floors, MonoBond SAP should be diluted with clean water (1 part MonoBond SAP with 5 parts of water) and spread on the floor. Porous substrates require a two-coat application of Primer. MonoBond SAP should be diluted with clean water (1 part MonoBond SAP with 3 parts water) and spread on the floor. The second coat (1:3 dilution) should be applied after 90 minutes or after the first coat is dry. Puddling and ponding of the primer must be avoided as this can lead to failure at the bond line. Extremely porous substrates will require at least two priming coats. In this case, allow the previous coat to dry before applying the subsequent coats. The surface should be presoaked with wet hessian for several hours prior to priming and application. PRIMING
FloorClad SCS6 should be mixed in a forced action mechanical mixer or by a heavy duty drill fitted with a purpose made mixing paddle. Only full bag mixing is permissible. Do not part mix, or add further water to the mixed material in order to prolong workability. Either of these actions will result in an incorrect water: powder ratio, and will compromise the final material performance Each 20 kg bag of FloorClad SCS6 requires the addition of 3.8 litres of cool, clean water to produce a free flowing self levelling consistency (water addition will vary according to each site condition). Best results are obtained by using the following mixing procedure: a. Pour 2/3 of the mixing water into the mixing vessel. b. Slowly add the 20 kg of FloorClad SCS6 whilst continuously mixing, until a smooth consistency is obtained. Mix for a minimum of five minutes. c. Slowly add the remaining 1/3 water mixing throughout to obtain a smooth, self levelling, pourable mix. MIXING INSTRUCTION Do not mix more FloorClad SCS6 than can be reasonably laid within the flow time of the material i.e. 10 minutes @ 35 C. However, ensure that subsequent mixes are ready, to enable continuous pouring of the whole area to be surfaced. Good site organization is essential - the required thickness must be achieved in one application. Best results are achieved when the pouring and levelling is a continuous process until the designated area is completely levelled. Pour the mixed material onto the primed substrate, spread with a trowel or squeegee and allow to self-level. The material must then be rolled with a Spiked Roller to achieve air release and final level. Rolling must be done immediately after placing the material. Do not attempt to float the setting surface. Coverage and yield: Coverage of FloorClad SCS6 is wholly dependent upon surface conditions, site trials are therefore recommended to ascertain actual usage on uneven substrates. However, as a guideline, we can consider 2 Sq.m / 20 kg / 6 mm. Note: 1. If the mix stiffens, it should be discarded. Do not attempt to re-mix with water 2. Coating In areas that are subject to regular water immersion or chemical attack from acids or organic solvent, it will be appropriate to protect FloorClad SCS6 with an epoxy floor coating such as FloorClad DC / FloorClad EFC. The first coat of the epoxy floor coating should be applied within 2-6 hours of installation of FloorClad SCS6 and the second coat should be applied after the first coat is dry, typically 12-18 hours. In areas where high chemical resistance is required, 2 coats of FloorClad EFC is recommended. High temperature workings APPLICATION INSTRUCTION It is suggested that, for temperatures above 35 C, the following guidelines are adopted as good working practice: (i) Store unmixed material in a cool (preferably temperature controlled) environment, avoiding exposure to direct sunlight. (ii) Keep equipment cool, arranging shade protection if necessary. It is especially important to keep cool those surfaces of the equipment which will come into direct contact with the material itself. (iii) Try to eliminate application during the hottest times of the day and in direct sunlight. (iv) Make sufficient material, plant and labour available to ensure that application is a continuous process.
Curing is generally not required. However under harsh curing conditions such as high ambient temperatures, drying winds etc., freshly hardened surfaces should be cured for two days with damp hessian completely covered with a polythene sheet. CURING When applying outside, protect from direct sunlight, hot or strong winds and extremes of temperature to avoid cracking or crazing. Application should not commence if the temperature of the substrate is below 5 FloorClad SCS6 should not be used on floors known to suffer from rising damp, unless treated with a suitable dampproof membrane. There should be no air flow over the floor area until the material has hardened (16 to 24 hours). A minimum application thickness of 3 mm is advised to sustain the standard physical performance of the product. Prevent freezing of FloorClad SCS6 for 48 hours from placement. FloorClad SCS6 should not be applied to asphalt substrates. PRODUCT LIMITATION If the substrate onto which FloorClad SCS6 is applied moves or cracks, reflective cracking may occur only suitable for use out of direct sunlight and/or drying winds during application and initial curing period All products have a shelf life of 12 months if kept in a dry store in the original, unopened packs.
