OVERVIEW Long-term web development project: GREAT LAKES MARITIME IMFORMATION DELIVERY SYSTEM To develop and manage a comprehensive data repository and information clearinghouse for the maritime industry in the Great Lakes To facilitate the acquisition, storage, management,analysis and exchange of data between analysts and stakeholders To draw linkages between: Maritime freight movements Economic development Environmental quality

MAIN ELEMENTS OF THE SYSTEM GREAT LAKES MARITIME IMFORMATION DELIVERY SYSTEM Detailed data repository for vessel movements, port functions commodity flows, economic activity, climate, environmental impacts, etc. An Internet-based GIS data viewer (Citrix Metaframe Delivery) An Internet-based information delivery er site for prepared maps, tables, graphics, text, etc. A data exchange supporting user inquiries and furnish information on demand An information clearinghouse to furnish links to other information resources (firms, agencies, universities, etc.)

Activities for the Upcoming Year GREAT LAKES MARITIME IMFORMATION DELIVERY SYSTEM An expanded data delivery system that includes detailed regional economic data, weather and climatic data, dock and terminal facilities, commodity movements, e intermodal commodity, od lock data a and navigation facilities, movements, alternative transportation networks (including rail, highway and air); A detailed inventory of aggregated vessel and commodity movements through the Great Lakes Maritime Transportation System: Cargo flows vessel types, vessel size, types of commodities, origins, destinations Baseline data for vessel movements including size, horsepower, emissions, fuel consumption, ballast inventories, etc. Linking Great Lakes maritime freight movements between origins Linking Great Lakes maritime freight movements between origins, routes, ports and destinations as a means to link maritime freight flows to the regional economy

Activities for the Upcoming Year GREAT LAKES MARITIME IMFORMATION DELIVERY SYSTEM An interconnected intermodal network (water, rail, highway) that will enable analysts to incorporate transshipment costs and characteristics at terminals A comprehensive Atlas of Great Lakes Maritime Commerce on the project web site that includes maps for download in.pdf format. A detailed inventory of commodity flows international and domestic by mode and by port of entry/exit. A data delivery function in the form of a secured FTP site at the project web page.
