Billing 2013 ICD-9 Updates The annual ICD-9 updates are available to you as part of this release. The first time the Billing Module is opened postrelease, you will receive a pop-up window: Answering Yes will auto-load the code updates. Answering No will not load the updates, and you will not be asked again. Answering Later will cause the window to pop-up when you open the Billing Module the next day. If you check the boxes for Update Problem Description and/or Update Code Description, the current descriptions will be updated to match the description as it is in this edition of the codes. NOTE: If you have customized your code or problem descriptions for ease in searching from the EMR, you will not want to check the boxes. 2
Payment Posting Report Two new reporting tools have been added to OfficeEMR : Payment Listing by Source and Date and Payment Listing by Poster and Date. Both reports are available off the Practice Summary Report in the Billing Module. 3
EMR E/M Coding The E/M Coding screen and workflow has been updated and improved. Please review the quick use guide for more details. 4
Reports Provider Dashboard (Meaningful Use) Two modifications to the Provider Dashboard to more accurately reflect patient encounters and help clients that fall into unique prescribing situations continue to meet Meaningful Use. CPOE Measure Addendum The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) identified a unique situation that could prevent providers from meeting the CPOE objective, despite providers completing all defined CPOE requirements. In response to this situation, CMS published FAQ 3257 (https://questions.cms.gov/faq.php?id=5005&faqid=3257) to help providers meet the objective using a different formula to calculate CPOE. Criteria required to use the CPOE Measure Addendum (all must apply): Provider has printed/sent less than 100 medications during the EHR Reporting Period maintains medication lists that include medications that they did not order Orders medications for less than 30 percent of patients with a medication in their medication list during the EHR reporting period OfficeEMR has been updated so that when a provider meets these criteria, the Provider Dashboard will automatically implement the alternate denominator and re-calculate the measure as described in FAQ 3257. You will see the words using Addendum next to the Measurement calculations. 5
Stage 1 Meaningful Use Measure Updates This release will modify the way Stage 1 Meaningful Use is measured for the following criteria (as stated in FAQ 10664 by CMS https://questions.cms.gov/faq.php?id=5005&faqid=3307 ): Problem List Demographics Smoking Status Vitals Allergy List Medication List CPOE Patient Education Patient Reminders Timely Access Prior to this release, a patient was included in these measures based on the claims created with the associated clinician marked as the rendering provider, regardless of what CPT codes were actually used on each claim. Because the measures are defined as visits where the patient is seen by the EP, those claims where the patient was not seen by the EP should not have been included in the provider s measurements. To accommodate this change in logic we have added a checkbox to the Code Setup screen for each CPT code labeled MU EP Encounter. Any claim created within the defined MU reporting period with the associated clinician set as the rendering provider and including at least one CPT code that has the MU EP Encounter box checked will be included. Conversely, if a claim is created within the reporting period with the associated clinician set as the rendering provider but does not include a code with MU EP Encounter checked, it will not be included. 6
Post-release, the following CPT codes will have the MU EP Encounter box checked by default: 99201, 99202, 99203, 99204, 99205 99211, 99212, 99213, 99214, 99215 99381, 99382, 99383, 99384, 99385, 99386, 99387 99358, 99359 99391, 99392, 99393, 99394, 99395, 99396, 99397 99441, 99442, 99443 To add a code to be included in the MU provider dashboard calculations, simply search for the code, check the MU EP Encounter box and save the code. This update will only change the measurements for providers in an active Meaningful Use reporting period. 1
