ESKOM CSP CONFERENCE 26th and 27th August, 2013

Outline 1. SASTELA - Introduction 2. Linkages Green Economy Accord, IPAP, 3. Linkages National Development Plan 4. Value Proposition GIZ Study on Job Creation 5. Projects Round 1, 2 and 3 6. Conclusion

SASTELA s Some of the Members

1.0: SASTELA s Objec0ves v Promote the roll out of CSP power plants for the production of sustainable peak, mid merit (shoulder) and base load solar thermal electricity in Southern Africa. v Promote the uptake of large scale industrial solar process heat. v Promote CSP in Southern Africa at policy and administrative levels (local, national, regional & international). v Promote the manufacture of CSP components in Southern Africa and to explore the airbus model, where SADC countries can manufacture different CSP components. v Promote excellence in the planning, design, construction and operating of CSP plants.

2.0: Policy Linkages - Green Economy Accord, IPAP, 1. SASTELA is a signatory of the Green Economy Accord and as a industry we have committed ourselves to commitment three of the green economy accord which requires Government, industry and all social partners to work together to deliver on the Green Economy Commitments. 2. The proposed study will be tabled to Government and all social partners as the Strategy and Action Plan that will contribute to the creation of 50,000 jobs in the renewable sector by 2020. 3. The study will clearly spell out the industrialisation opportunities for SA which will contribute to the DTI s Industrial Policy and Action Plan (IPAP) 4. The study results will be used to ensure that there is a better allocation for CSP when the IRP is revised as of 2013

3.0: Policy Linkages Na0onal Development Plan (NDP) v CHAPTER 3 : ECONOMY & EMPLOYMENT ü CSP can play a key role in helping drive down the unemployment rate from 24.9% to 14% by 2020 v CHAPTER 4 : ECONOMIC INFRASTRUCTURE v CSP can help achieve the following objectives and actions: ü The proportion of people with access to the electricity grid should rise to at least 90% by 2030, with non grid available for the rest. ü The country would need an additional 29 000MW of electricity by 2030. About 10 900MW of existing capacity is to be retired implying new build of more than 40 000MW ü At least 20 000MW of this capacity should come from renewable sources. ü Move to less carbon intensive electricity production through procuring at least 20 000MW of renewable energy, increased hydro imports etc..

3.1: Policy Linkages Na0onal Development Plan v CHAPTER 5 : ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY & RESILIENCE ü At least 20 000MW of renewable energy should be contracted by 2030

4.0: 2030 GIZ CSP Study & Ac0on Plan - Scenarios 1 Scenario 1 Deploying 1,000 MW of CSP that are currently in the IRP to be deployed by 2020. 2 Scenario 2 Deploying 5,000 MW of CSP by 2025 and 1,000 MW for the Southern Africa export market. 3 Scenario 3 Deploying 10,000 MW of CSP by 2030 and 2,000 MW coming from hybridised plants with existing coal plants. 4 Scenario 4 Deploying an additional 10,000 MW of CSP across the SADC region.

4.1: Job Crea0on Poten0al from GIZ CSP Scenarios SOURCE: GIZ SASTELA STUDY

5.0: Projects Round 1, 2 and 3 v Round 1 and Round 2 Projects under construction (200 MW) - v 200 MW available for Round 3: Potential Bidders - KATHU SOLAR PARK FERRUM PAULPUTS ABENGOA ABENGOA 1 GORDONIA UPINGTON KAROSHOEK SOLAR VALLEY BOKPORT GARONA NIEWENHOOP SOLAR RESERVE to Perseus substation (backbone) New build 2016 400kV 400kV substation & TL AGGENSIS ARIES to Hydra substation (backbone) 275kV substation & TL 132kV substation & TL CSP ROUND 1 & 2 NOT TO SCALE: Source : EMVELO CSP Parks Potential = 3-5 GW CSP ROUND 3 BIDDERS

6.0: Summary The role of CSP in the SA economy 1 Economic growth engine Supports local manufacture with potential to export skills and components 2 Job creation and skills development Significant Direct, Indirect, and Induced jobs created with each CSP project. 3 Positive Impact on local communities Job Creation, Infrastructure, education, poverty alleviation. 4 Positive Environmental footprint Zero carbon dioxide emissions. 5 Enabler of S.A. Development through electricity for all initiative Catalyst for meaningful change in South Africa
