Product Information Plastics Dow Corning HMB-1103 Masterbatch FEATURES & BENEFITS When used in polar engineered plastics such as PA and POM, Dow Corning HMB-1103 Masterbatch demonstrates the benefits below when compared to a standard polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) formulation: Similar COF improvement (inkind and out-of-kind) under high and low loads Similar wear resistance (in-kind and out-of-kind) under high and low loads Long-term efficiency Mechanical performance improvement Flowability improvement Processability improvement Lower density Efficient at lower loadings Other benefits Easy-to-handle pellets Suitable for low- and high-speed applications No slip-stick development COMPOSITION Polyacrylate dimethyl siloxane Tribology modifier for polar engineered plastics such as polyamide (PA) and polyoxymethylene (POM). APPLICATIONS Suggested for highly demanding applications requiring long-term slip performance and wear resistance. Typical examples are bearings, gears and conveyor belts, window lifting systems and steering column sensors, housings and roller shutter systems, kitchen and household appliances, sports equipment as well as car seats adjustment systems. Test Property Unit Result Physical form NA White pellets ISO 1 1109 Specific Gravity 0.95 Kg/l Thermal stability 2 300 C Melt temperature 101 C 1 ISO: International Standardization Organization. 2 TGA: Thermal Gravimetric Analysis DESCRIPTION is a new-generation tribological modifier and processing aid designed for polar engineered based systems such as PA. delivers slip and wear performance similar to that of standard, highly loaded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) compounds. is also highly efficient at suppressing stick-slip phenomenon. acts as a processing aid and improves flowability. HOW TO USE additive levels are suggested between 1.5 and 5 wt%. These low dosages allow you to recover lost mechanical performance (tensile and impact) vs. standard, highly loaded PTFE compounds. It can be used in classical melt blending processes such as twin screw extruders. A physical blend with neat polymer pellets and feed in 0D are suggested. The additive is also suitable for direct dilution on injection press. It is highly recommended to keep melt temperature below 300 C to ensure proper performance.
performances in POM. dynamic coefficient of friction measurements under different conditions: Against POM Against STEEL* Load=30N, speed=8 mm/s, t=45 min, T=23 C, L=60 mm, 660 cycles Load=5N, speed=200 mm/s, t=10 min, T=23 C, L=100 mm, 670 cycles *Rockwell C hardness 62 demonstrates coefficient of friction improvements of at least 50% compared to a typical PTFE 20 wt% standard formulation. Long-term dynamic coefficient of friction measurements under different conditions: Unlike PTFE formulations, maintains a low coefficient of friction over the long term and prevents surface abrasion. 2

The pictures below demonstrate the excellent abrasion resistance provided by after a wear test. Surface damage is clearly observed in PA-GF without additives (indicated by the red arrow). Material containing 3.3 wt% shows a very smooth surface with no visible wear traces, comparable to 15wt% PTFE.
