SHINKAWA Sensor Technology applies strict quality control and inspections to ensure the high reliability of its products. This instruction manual contains descriptive information, specifications, principle of operation, installation procedures and field wiring with monitor. Please study contents of this manual and related manuals thoroughly before installing or operating the equipment, and keep it handy for future reference. (This manual is applied to Model CA-721, -722 version.)! CAUTION 1. Do not drop the transducer and otherwise mishandle. 2. Be sure to install the transducer at environmental (case) temperature within -50 to +120 C. 3. Field wiring should be performed correctly by reading this manual. 4. Install the transducer at the place where is most sensitive for vibration. the mounting surface must be clean, smooth, flat, and large enough to accommodate the entire base of transducer. 5. Use the specified connector and cable in the specifications. Keep cabling away from power and control lines to prevent noise interference. 6. Do not measure insulation resistance and dielectric strength other than those at places specified. If measured, transducer damage may result. 7. Do not remodel this unit without permission. Otherwise the guarantee can not be made. 8. This unit is designed for use by specialists or persons thoroughly familiar with the field. 9. Make sure that the end user receives the Instruction Manual delivered with this unit. Before Use... 3. RECEIVING INSPECTION AND STORING CA-72 3-1 RECEIVING INSPECTION Visually inspect the transducer for obvious shipping damage. If shippng damage is apparent, file a claim with the carrier and submit a copy to Shinkawa Electric Co.,LTD. 3-2 STORING CONSIDERATIONS If storing is required temporarily, observe the following notes. (1) Store the transducers in the shipping box. (2) Do not store in the following places. a) with extreme temperature. b) with much moisture. c) with magnetic field. d) with shock or vibration. e) with corrosive materials. f) with water or dust. -4-

4. INSTALLATION CA-72 4-1 GENERAL Model CA-72 can be mounted to the measured point by using attached mounting stud.! CAUTION The mounting surface must be clean, smooth, flat, and large enough to accommodate the entire base of the transducer. 4.2 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE Mount the CA-72 transducer by performing the following steps. (1) Drill and tap the mounting hole (M6, 7mm deep min.) perpendicular (90 ±1 ) to the mounting surface. (2) Clean the mounting surface. Dirt, dust, paint and oils must be wiped out from the mounting surface. Ensure the mounting hole is free off foreign material and the threads are clean. (3) Install the mounting stud into the transducer base and finger tighten until snug. (4) Apply some silicon grease to the mounting surface. (5) Install the transducer into tapped mounting hole and tighten the transducer with a torque wrench until snug. The transducer is torqued to about 320N cm(33kg cm REF.).! CAUTION 1. Do not over-torque. Excessive torque can result in degraded performance, internal damage and inaccurate readings. 2. We can provide any type stud, so check stud size before installarion. 4. INSTALLATION CA-72 4-3 CONNECTOR CONNECTION PROCEDURE Connect connector by performing the following steps for Model CA-722 connector type version. (1) Securely connect the connector of the cable to the connector receptacle of the transducer. (2) To prevent loosening of the connector due to vibration, secure the connector with stainless wire as shown below. Lock wire hole Stainless wire Lock wire hole Connector! CAUTION 1. If used in the place with much moisture, encapsulate the connector with silicon compound that does not have an acetic base. 2. The connector is not watertight. If used in outdoor environment, the connector should be covered with adequate protective tube. In this case, care should be taken not to enter water into connector. 3. Be ware not to apply the excessive force to the connector, which may cause the damage. -6-

4. INSTALLATION CA-72 4-4 CABLE Observe the following notes for cabling. (1) Use the CW standard cable for connection with the CA-722 connector type version. Use the twisted pair, shielded cable (AWG No.20) for connection between the junction terminal and monitoring device. Select suitable cable for operating environments. (2) The cable should not exceed 300 meters. Excessive length may limit the systems frequency response. (3) Keep cabling away from power and control lines, to prevent noise interference. (4) Cable should be securely fixed. Prevent the cable from bending sharply, twisting, kinking, knotting, and straining. The recommended minimum bend radius is 80mm. SHINKAWA recommends that the cable should be routed, through conduit to prevent physical damage and noise interference.! CAUTION Be ware not to apply the excessive force to the connector cable, which may cause the damage. -7-

5. WIRING DIAGRAM CA-72 5-1 WIRING PROCEDURE The CA-72 requires an external DC power source to operate. Proper operation can be obtained by applying a DC voltage to the appropriate lead of transducer through a current regulating (CR) diode, as shown below.! CAUTION 1. Never omit the current regulating diode. 2. If the transducer is connected to the monitoring device (e.g. vibration monitor) that can supply DC power output to the transducer, refer to the instruction of the monitoring device. May be provided as part of monitoring device.
