Code Compliance Research Report CCRR-0185 Issue Date: 12-09-2016 Renewal Date: 12-10-2017 Revision Date: 04-20-2017 DIVISION: 06 00 00 WOOD, PLASTICS, AND COMPOSITES Section: 06 50 00 Structural Plastics Section: 06 63 00 Plastic Railings Tapco International Corporation 3939 Timbro Drive Metamora, MI 48455 800-971-4148 www.tapcoint.com REPORT SUBJECT: Plus Vinyl Railing Systems: Classic Commercial Standard Horizontal Standard Vertical T-Rail Sold Under the Brands: Builders Edge & Mid-America 29797 Beck Road Wixom MI 48393 1.0 SCOPE OF EVALUATION This research report addresses compliance with the following Codes: 2015 International Building Code (IBC) 2015 International Residential Code (IRC) 2012 International Building Code (IBC) 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) Plus Vinyl Railing Systems have been evaluated for the following properties: Structural Performance Durability Surface Burning 2.0 USES 2.1. Plus vinyl railing systems identified in this report are guards or guardrails under the definitions of the referenced codes intended for use on elevated walking areas of buildings and walkways as required by the referenced codes. 2.2. Plus vinyl railing systems are recognized in this report may be used in One- and Two-Family Dwellings regulated by the IRC and all construction types regulated by the IBC in accordance with Section 1406.3, Exception 2. Guardrails less than 42 inches high are limited to use in One- and Two-Family Dwellings (IRC). See Table 1 for additional restrictions based upon Use an Occupancy classification. 3.0 DESCRIPTION 3.1. Guardrail Assemblies Railing systems are provided as level guardrails for level walking areas such as decks, balconies and porches, and sloped guards for open sides of stairways. See Table 1 for qualified guardrail lengths and heights. 3.2. Materials and Processes Railings are an assemblage of co-extruded and molded components utilizing Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) material with aluminum reinforcements. The PVC components are produced in three colors: Clay, Sandstone, and White. The systems consist of the following components: 3.2.1. The Classic top rail is a contour co-extruded PVC breadloaf profile with overall dimensions of 2.7 wide at the top by 2.2 tall with a nominal 0.09 wall thickness. See Figure 1. 3.2.2. The T-Rail top rail is a co-extruded PVC T profile with overall dimensions of 3.5 wide at the top and 2 wide at the bottom by 3.5 tall with a nominal 0.09 wall thickness. See Figure 2. 3.2.3. The Classic and T-Rail bottom rails are a coextruded PVC rectangle profile with overall dimensions of 2 wide by 3.5 tall with a nominal 0.09 wall thickness. See Figure 3.

Code Compliance Research Report CCRR-0185 Page 2 of 12 3.2.4. The Commercial, Standard Horizontal, and Standard Vertical top and bottom rails are a coextruded PVC rectangle profile with overall dimensions of 2 wide by 3.5 tall with a nominal 0.09 wall thickness. See Figure 3. 3.2.5. Balusters are provided in two styles: 1.25 square, hollow, extruded PVC picket or 1.25 hollow, thermoformed PVC spindle. See Figure 4 and Figure 5. 3.2.6. An extruded 6005-T5 aluminum alloy H insert, with overall dimensions of 1.977 wide by 1.628 tall and nominal thickness of 0.125 is used to provide reinforcement for the top rails of the Classic railing systems. See Figure 6. 3.2.7. An extruded 6005-T5 aluminum alloy Heavy U insert, with overall dimensions of 1.75 wide by 2.625 tall is used to provide reinforcement for the top and bottom rails of the Commercial railing systems. See Figure 7. 3.2.8. An extruded 6005-T5 aluminum alloy Modified H insert, with overall dimensions of 1.76 wide by 3.26 tall is used to provide reinforcement for the top and bottom rails of the Standard Horizontal, Standard Vertical, and T-Rail railing systems and the bottom rail of the Classic railing systems. See Figure 8. 3.2.9. Top and bottom rails are connected to posts using a combination of PVC, polycarbonate and nylon mounting brackets. See Table 1 and Figure 9 through Figure 16. 4.0 PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS 4.1. Plus vinyl railing systems described in this report have demonstrated the capacity to resist the design loads specified in Chapter 16 of the IBC and Section R301 of the IRC when tested in accordance with ICC- ES AC174 and ASTM D 7032. 4.2. Structural performance has been demonstrated for a temperature range from -20 F to 125 F. 4.3. Materials used are deemed equivalent to preservative treated or naturally durable wood for resistance to weathering effects, decay, and attack from termites. 200 when tested according to ASTM E84, as required by AC174. 5.0 INSTALLATION Installation shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions and this report. Where differences occur between this report and the manufacturer's installation instructions, this report shall govern. 5.1. Railing assemblies consist of top and bottom rails with pre-routed holes to receive balusters. Aluminum railing reinforcements are inserted in the rails during assembly as specified for the series/model (see Table 1). 5.2. The top and bottom rails are attached directly to structural supports utilizing mounting brackets and fasteners as stipulated in Table 1 and Table 2. 5.3. The top and bottom rails may be attached to conventional wood supports. The wood in the supporting structure including support posts shall have a specific gravity of 0.50 or greater (Southern Yellow Pine or better) and a minimum thickness to allow full penetration of the bracket mounting screws. 5.4. 4x4 conventional wood posts may be covered by a non-structural PVC post sleeve with decorative caps and moldings. 6.0 SUPPORTING EVIDENCE 6.1. Drawings and installation instructions submitted by the manufacturer. 6.2. Reports of testing and engineering analysis demonstrating compliance with ICC-ES AC174, Acceptance Criteria for Deck Board Span Ratings and Guardrail Systems (Guards and Handrails), revised December 2014. 6.3. Reports of testing and engineering analysis demonstrating compliance with the performance requirements of ASTM D 7032-08 and ASTM D 7032-10a, Standard Specification for Establishing Performance Ratings for Wood-Plastic Composite Deck Boards and Guardrail Systems (Guards or Handrails). 4.4. PVC materials used in the Plus vinyl railing systems have a flame spread index not greater than
