DESIGN GUIDE FOR HONKA FUSION
DESIGN GUIDE FOR HONKA FUSION We hope that this design guide inspires you to create innovative, sustainable architecture using our Honka Fusion concept. Get inspired by the ways you can combine your architectural visions with today s demands for healthy and ecological living by using natural wood and other materials.
WOOD IS AN ORGANIC MATERIAL. This means it changes form over time, shrinking and settling. This perfectly natural phenomenon used to set some limitations for the design of log houses.
BECAUSE INNOVATION HAS ALWAYS BEEN HONKA S ANSWER, we knew we could come up with the perfect solution. We developed a non-settling log that allows us to build bolder and more diverse log houses than ever before.
HONKA FUSION TM REVOLUTIONISED THE LOG HOUSE DESIGN Honka Fusion means that you can combine different materials and create spectacular architecture easily, without the settling spaces and wide architraves of traditional log construction, still maintaining all the benefits of natural, solid wood.
THE NEW GENERATION OF LOG HOUSES TRADITIONAL HONKA FUSION TM
THE NON-SETTLING HONKA FUSION TM LOG The wall core frame of the Honka Fusion houses is formed by non-settling logs, made of Finnish pine (thickness 134 mm or 204 mm) that enable low-energy buildings with breathing and moisture-safe wall structures. TheHonka Fusion log is manufactured from six sections that are laminated crosswise. The solution is based on minimizing the effects of settling with vertical middle layers of laminated logs. The non-settling characteristic is achieved by using a vertical-wood middle lamella and a wood-on-wood profile, tight bolting that eliminates installation clearances, and special drying of the log. The PEFC certification guarantees that Honka s raw material originates from certified Finnish forests. We never use wood from protected areas.
TRADITIONAL LOG WALL When designing a traditional log house, the settling of the log needs to be taken into account. Even though designers with expertise in log home planning can meet the challenges, it still used to set some limitations for the architects. Settling space above window Wide, traditional log house mouldings
HONKA FUSION TM LOG WALL Because of the non-settling Honka Fusion solution, logs can easily be combined with other materials, free of the wide architraves and settling spaces of traditional log construction. No settling Space is needed Light, modern mouldings on windows and doorways.
MASSIVE AND INSULATED WALL STRUCTURES Honka Fusion wall can be used as itself, to create a massive, homogeneous wall. If needed, insulation can be installed inside or outside the 134 mm or 204 mm logs to achieve low-energy construction. CORNER SOLUTIONS Cross corners are characteristic to log houses, but many people feel they belong only in rural architecture. Honka's solution for contemporary designs is the minimalistic Honka Zero Corner. All corner types can be achieved with insulated wall structures as well. Inner corner with interconnecting logs Honka Cross Corner Honka Short Corner Honka Zero Corner Even layering and regular outer corner
EXTERIOR CLADDING OPTIONS Outside panelling can be achieved with wood panels, plywood or boards. Rendered surfaces are also possible. Honka Fusion log wall Exterior insulation Honka Fusion log wall Exterior insulation Panelling, Various types can be used Rendering
THE NON-SETTLING LOG WALL STRUCTURE HAS MANY ADVANTAGES Producing high-quality massive wood wall structures that do not settle over time Enabling sophisticated, minimalistic details without the settling spaces or wide architraves of traditional log constructions Speeding up construction as preparations for settlements are not necessary Enabling direct fastening of different materials and structures, resulting in more stable and high-quality buildings Helping to make structures extremely airtight, which saves heating energy and means improved fire safety. Maintaining all the benefits of traditional log houses

PROVEN AND CERTIFIED TECHNOLOGY Logs have been used to build homes for thousands of years, but the Honka Fusion wall solution is a 21st century innovation. It has been tested for 15 years in co-operation with universities of technology and research to prove it s performance in different climates. HonkaFusion buildings have been built in Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, France and the United Kingdom. Non-settling logs have valid EU design protectionsin Europe and a utility model in Finland. The product is included in Honkarakenne seta (European Technical Approval) product approval, which, together with the Honkaquality system, enables HonkaFusion houses to bear the CE marking.
