Job Description Job Title: Department: Location: Reports To: FLSA Status: Production Team Leader (029) Administration (40) Insteel Wire Products, Gallatin, TN General Manager Exempt SUMMARY Supervises work of assigned personnel on assigned shift, including employee relations, safety, and training. Responsibility also includes production scheduling, quality assurance matters, inventory and purchase of operating supplies. Works daily to ensure assigned areas of responsibility are working at risk lowered to ALARA specifically in an effort to achieve ZERO HARM. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization s policies and applicable laws. Other duties may be assigned. Team Leader (65%) Directly supervises work of assigned personnel on assigned shifts, coaches and supports all persons assigned to ensure personal growth to reach their maximum potential. Responsible for employee relations, housekeeping, safety, production problems, training, cost on individual shift. Leads by example. Prepares required production reports, prepares for oncoming shift, prepares required personnel attendance documents, and verifies hourly time sheets. Schedules employee overtime as needed. Coordinates with shipping related to finished goods storage and location. Coordinates scrap and inventory related functions to maintain a correct inventory. Completes evaluations, documentations, administers corrective actions, and recognizes performance. Supports and administers policies, and promotes a positive environment. Attends staff meetings and conducts shift meetings. Relays information in a manner that is conducive to a safe and efficient environment. Quality Assurance (10%) Tests all finished goods and enters quality data into production system in the absence of the Quality Technician. Aids in development and installation of quality improvement methods (continuous improvement) and cost-saving ideas. Initiates preventative action to ensure all performance standards are met. Scheduling (5%) Generates work orders to comply with the production schedule. Coordinates with the cleaning house to assure rod supply for production demands. Complies with all requirements related to both the Oracle and Maximo systems. Safety (10%) Conducts and reports Safe Behavior Audits. Trains employee in safe behavior and includes in audits. Conducts safety training as required. Recognizes potential hazards and unsafe behavior and initiates corrective measures. Team Leaders, or designee, will attend monthly Safety Meetings. Conducts weekly risk assessments. Operational Excellence (5%) Leads and participates in department brainstorming sessions. Maintains active Continuous Improvement projects in a PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act/Adjust) format. Leads and participates in plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives. Other (5%) May be required to assist with maintaining operating supply inventories. Assists in maintaining a correct and organized die inventory. Attends extensive personal growth training during off-scheduled hours. Recognizes problems, draws conclusions and takes appropriate action to resolve problems. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization s policies and applicable laws. Directly may supervise 10 or more employees as assigned per rotation in the Production Department(s) of Wiredrawing, Stranding, and Packaging. May indirectly supervise employees in Maintenance and Shipping. Direct responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, checking, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; maintaining quality standards; and maintaining quantity standards. Indirect responsibilities include assigning and directing work. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Experience: A minimum of 3 years previous work-related experience is required. Individual must have above average interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and develop individuals. An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable.
