INTRODUCTION Strict maintenance of the 58 reactors in service in France enhances their performance in various capacities: safety, security radioprotection environment friendliness availability The maintenance of the most dense nuclear reactor fleet worldwide is ensured by 10,000 EDF agents assisted by 20,000 employees from service contractors. With more than 1,400 employees seconded to the EDF sites, ONET TECHNOLOGIES is one of the major maintenance contributors for the French Nuclear Power Plants. EQUIPMENT INSPECTION AND CONTROL Turbines: Non-destructive testing of low pressure rotors Initial problem scope : Defects on the ringed shafts on turbine rotors Adopted solution : Ultrasonic inspection by TOFD process (Time Of Flight Diffraction) in order to determine crack positions and dimensioning Contribution of Industry to NPP Performances Dominique MOUILLOT 8

HIGH INTERVENTION RESPONSIVENESS UPON TECHNICAL EVENTS Refueling: Handling system deblocking Initial problem scope: On April 29, 2004, while refueling unit 3 at Paluel, the refueling machine's gripper hook remains blocked on one of the assemblies Adopted solution: Diver's intervention as close as possible to the assembly, while maintening full safety and security Contribution of Industry to NPP Performances Dominique MOUILLOT 9

REPAIR OF MAIN COMPONENTS Pressuriser: Heating stick replacement Initial problem scope: Replacement of damaged heating sticks on the pressuriser Adopted solution: Remote-operated intervention involving machining, automated welding and automated NDT solutions Contribution of Industry to NPP Performances Dominique MOUILLOT 10

MODIFICATIONS PURPORTING TO ENHANCE THE UNIT SAFETY LEVEL RIS-EAS recirculation sumps Initial problem scope: Modification of the RIS-EAS recirculation filters in order to increase the filtration surface area in case of safety injection or containment spraying Adopted solution: Based on the safety requirements, new filtration system design, manufacturing and installation on site Contribution of Industry to NPP Performances Dominique MOUILLOT 11

REMPLACEMENT OF MAIN COMPONENTS AT END OF LIFE Providing replacement Steam Generators Initial problem scope: Providing Steam Generators to replace the initially mounted SGs Adopted solution: Providing SGs in partnership with MHI and in keeping with the French design and construction rules Current progress: First trio delivered in January 2009 for the Le Blayais 1 unit and an other 4 trios under construction, to be delivered successively in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Contribution of Industry to NPP Performances Dominique MOUILLOT 13

Unit outage times can be shortened by: improving maintenance operation, ensuring suitable worksite preparation, providing efficient logistics around all these operations.
