STRENGTHEN YOUR OATING PERFORMANE WITH EPOTUF Formulating coatings for marine, aerospace, industrial maintenance and flooring applications is a tough job made easier by using raw materials that provide tough performance. Reichhold s EPOTUF resins provide the epoxy coatings formulator with a broad selection of epoxy resins and curing agents. Epoxies are thermosetting resins that contain an oxirane or epoxide ring and form infusible, insoluble solids when crosslinked with amine or other types of curing agents. uring agent selection and conditions are key factors which determine the final properties of epoxy systems. Typically curing agents crosslink epoxy resins in one of two ways: by reacting with the epoxide group to become part of the final polymer network or by acting as a catalyst to promote homopolymerization of the resin. After testing the stoichiometric : ratio it may be necessary to vary the ratio of epoxy to amine depending on the application and desired physical properties. The table below highlights some general trends observed when excess amine or epoxy are used. AHEW of uring Agent Blend = Total Weight of uring Agent Blend Weight A + Weight B Example: AHEW A AHEW B EPOTUF 7-27 epoxy resin is being used with a curing agent blend consisting of 80 parts EPOTUF 7-60 and 20 parts EPOTUF 7-65. EPOTUF 7-27 epoxy resin EEW = 200 EPOTUF 7-60 curing agent AHEW = 85 EPOTUF 7-65 curing agent AHEW = 74 AHEW of uring Agent Blend = 00 = 8 phr = 8 X 00 = 4.5 80 20 + 200 85 74 Therefore, 4.5 parts of curing agent blend are needed to cure 00 parts of EPOTUF 7-27 epoxy resin. alculate the EEW of a blend of epoxy resins. EEW of Epoxy Resin Blend = Total Weight of Epoxy Resin Blend Weight A + Weight B Example: EEW A EEW B 90 parts of EPOTUF 7-40 epoxy resin is being blended with 0 parts of EPOTUF 7-05 reactive diluent to reduce the viscosity. This epoxy resin blend will be reacted with EPOTUF 7-70 curing agent. EPOTUF 7-40 epoxy resin EEW = 85 EPOTUF 7-05 epoxy resin EEW = 675 EPOTUF 7-70 curing agent AHEW = 9 EEW of Epoxy Resin Blend = 00 = 200 phr = 9 X 00 = 47 90 + 0 200 85 675 Therefore, 47 parts of EPOTUF 7-70 curing agent are needed to cure 00 parts of the epoxy resin blend.
