WE TAKE ACTION. SCHÜTZ GmbH & Co. KGaA The SCHÜTZ Group The family-run company SCHÜTZ GmbH & Co. KGaA that was founded by Udo Schütz in 1958 has 4,000 employees at over 45 locations around the world and a turnover of 1.4 billion euro. The broad spectrum of services offered by our group covers the areas of PACKAGING SYSTEMS, ENERGY SYSTEMS, INDUSTRIAL SERVICES and COMPOSITES. SCHÜTZ has been producing lightweight construction materials and fibre-reinforced composite components for the aerospace industry under the brand name CORMASTER for more than 30 years. We are continuously expanding this company division with SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES, in order to successfully utilise the collective expertise and technical capabilities held by the company in the area of wind energy.

Research & Development WE THINK FURTHER. In cooperation with the customer, the experienced engineers at SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES develop the right solutions for the relevant applications. Based on the 3D geometries provided by the customer, we realise the desired construction using the 3D CAD software Catia V5. We carry out FEM analyses in the area of steel construction, provide all of the necessary technical verifications and realise the steel constructions in our specialist SCHÜTZ welding shop. To ensure SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES becomes even better, we conduct R&D work in cooperation with universities and institutes to develop the production processes and materials of the future.

Services WE OFFER THE ENTIRE SPECTRUM. SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES, as part of the SCHÜTZ Group, develops and produces master models, moulds, prototypes and rotor blades at its Siershahn location in Westerwald. As an innovative manufacturer in the area of composites, the construction and production of operating materials and production facilities are an integral part of our comprehensive range of services.
Mould construction WE ARE IN GOOD SHAPE. The precise machining of wood and plastic is carried out at SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES using a 5-axis milling machine. This is also suitable for very large components thanks to its dimensions of 56 m x 8.5 m x 4.5 m and the two portals that work in parallel. The short process paths from model construction through to mould making ensure highly efficient working practices. In the interest of simplifying the transportation process, large constructions are designed in sections and then subsequently aligned and connected using laser measurement processes. Along the different quality gates implemented at SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES, we check and ensure the degree of curing, vacuum integrity and contour accuracy throughout the production process in accordance with the very highest standards. 8

Mould construction WE HAVE THE PARTS TO MAKE THE WHOLE. -1-2 SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES produces moulds ranging from RTM or die-cast parts measuring only a few millimetres through to rotor blades of up to 75 metres in length. Each individual design corresponds to the relevant application. Small mould formats are manufactured directly out of metal or plastic as direct tooling solutions, while moulds for large components are produced from fibre-reinforced composite materials. We utilise the very highest standards of vacuum-infusion technology for these processes with the aid of VAP technology. The use of laser projection technology in combination with our own pre-cut fibre parts enables us to work quickly and very precisely. The dosing systems used in these processes are fitted with in-line degassing devices and technologies for the redundant and continuous monitoring of the mixing ratios. Moulds can be heated according to customer specifications using electrical or water-heated systems with an output of up to 2 kw/m². Additionally, we offer mould-cooling systems for GFK moulds which can achieve cooling rates of up to 0.7 K/min after tempering. In the area of mould manufacturing, we check the vacuum integrity, degree of crosslinking and contour accuracy across the different process steps in accordance with the very highest standards. The special thing about SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES is that the company is able to carry out the entire production process itself thanks to its broad range of manufacturing capabilities and its ideal infrastructure. This includes, for example, the use of a large milling machine that enables the precise machining of the moulds. Alignment, marking or even the utilisation of positioning jigs for components are all implemented with the highest levels of precision.

ROTOR BLADES UP TO 75 METRES IN LENGTH. Rotor blade production WE OPERATE AT MAXIMUM ROTATION. SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES possesses all of the technical requirements for constructing rotor blades, as well as for handling and even reworking them. This includes the use of the state-of-the-art mixing and dosing systems for laminates and resin and bonding pastes, as well as the latest airless spray-painting systems. A quick transfer to series production is guaranteed due to the use of our own 100-inch NC cutter for cutting fibre and infusion kits. At SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES, this ensures that we are able to produce the right kit for efficiently producing rotor blades after only a few stages of revision. We are able to produce blade flanges for prototypes and small-series production with the greatest degree of flexibility using the 5-axis machining centre. A boring mill with a bolt circle diameter of up to 3,500 mm is used for the series production of the blade flanges. In the individual stages of the rotor blade production process, we use the very latest QM and R&D technologies and equipment, such as the thermal analysis of plastics, laser measurement technology and mechanical material testing processes. At SCHÜTZ COMPOSITES, we can deliver all of the production steps involved in rotor blade construction from one source and have positioned ourselves on the market as a built-to-print supplier.
