Solutions in Zytel DuPont Zytel HTN high performance polyamide resins Letting You Do More for Less Replace metal, thermosets Improve performance Cut part and system costs
Zytel HTN Your Bridge to Performance and Value B ridging the cost/performance gap between traditional engineering plastics and higher-priced specialty polymers, Zytel HTN high performance polyamide resins offer you rugged, economical alternatives to metal and thermosets in a wide range of applications. Zytel HTN is a family of resins based on partially aromatic polyamides, most of which also fall into the class of polymers known as PPAs (polyphthalamides). They combine outstanding productivity and flow during molding with excellent structural strength, toughness and dimensional stability, wet or dry, at typical ambient conditions and in harsh environments. Such environments can involve long- or short-term exposure to one or more of the following conditions: elevated temperature, heavy structural loads, high humidity, and aggressive chemicals, including motor fuel and other automotive fluids. The unique performance and processing capabilities of Zytel HTN open the way for the design of innovative, cost-effective molded components for automotive, electrical, electronics and other industrial fields. Made to Endure in Harsh Environments Make great auto parts Structural components: brackets, housings, other load-bearing parts usually made of metal. Engine cooling: thermostat housings, outlet valves, heater circuit valves, water pump impellers, electric water pumps, other parts to resist attack by aggressive longlife coolants. Oil handling: Pump covers, filter housings. Fuel handling, air-intake parts, charge air coolers and other underthe-hood parts. Wire harness connectors, other electrical parts to withstand USCAR 4 and other demanding test conditions. 42 volt electrical system components such as small-motor housings, enclosures, switches, relays, lamp sockets, etc. Encapsulated solenoids, sensors or switches for transmissions, engine control and more. Gears and other parts for highload systems driven by 42-volt motors. What else to make of them Electronic components: Multi-pin board connectors, plugs, jacks, sockets, coil forms and other parts to withstand SMT and other hightemperature circuit assembly processes and/or elevated service temperatures. Electrical parts: circuit breakers, relays, control module housings, encapsulated solenoids, valves or sensors for aggressive service environments, distribution transformer parts. Plumbing, HVAC: valves, fittings, pump housings, water heater parts. Other fields: Structural parts and housings for various types of industrial equipment. Aggressive chemicals Encapsulated solenoid valve for blood analyzer Impellers for automotive water pumps High loads Base mounting plate and wire harness support for automotive lift gate. Proposed design replaces eight metal parts and fasteners. Automotive fuel cutoff valve
Meeting the Challenges of Demanding Environments Challenges Structural integrity Fluctuating humidity Heat, high humidity, hot water Aggressive chemicals Cost reduction The bottom line What Zytel HTN Delivers Retention of useful strength, stiffness and toughness at temperatures up to 15 C or more. Consistent properties, wet or dry. Excellent long-term property retention in hot-dry, hot-humid and hot water environments. Resistance to attack by a wide range of chemicals, oils, solvents and automotive fluids over a wide temperature range. Fast molding cycles. Excellent flow allows molding of complex, thin-walled parts. Thermal stability minimizes scrap loss. No flash, no removal costs. Longer tool life. Lower material cost than most highperformance plastics. Up to 3% lower part cost or more compared with PPS, PEI, LCP and other highperformance resins for many parts.
