Executive Summary Banner by Ellucian customers are at a crossroads. Ellucian XE is the product direction for Ellucian which is being delivered to customers incrementally over the next several years. XE represents a technology direction allowing Banner customers to migrate to new Ellucian products over time. At the same time, institutions report increasing interest in cloud, hosted and managed services solutions for ERP and SIS/Student. TTG data shows that more than 50% of all new Student and ERP selections in higher education include SaaS, cloud, hosting and/or managed services. As TTG prepares its 8th annual Student Information Systems U.S. Higher Education Market Share, Trends and Leaders Report, the authors asked current Ellucan by Banner customers to answer questions related to plans to upgrade to XE, stay with Ellucian hosted/managed services (if applicable), look at Oracle Higher Education Cloud, look at Workday, and looking at other options. This Market Insight Report summarizes the results of the survey responses received from more than 200 respondents from U.S. Institutions. 5

Survey Results The March, 2016 survey was sent to all known institutions in the U.S. with Banner by Ellucian Student, HR, and/or Financial systems. Those asked to respond were CIO, CFO, CBO or other top administrator positions within each institution. According to the results, over 85% of respondents plan to stay with Ellucian Banner solutions and upgrade to XE. This research confirms TTG estimates in October 2015 when TTG predicted that as many as 120 institutions were considering a move to an alternative vendor solution by mid-2017. Percentage of Institutions That Plan to Stay with Ellucian Banner On-Premise and Upgrade to Ellucian XE Finance 33% Student 34% HR 33% Less than 15% of Ellucian Banner on-premise institutions are planning to move to an Ellucian hosted solution. Percentage of Institutions That Plan to Move From Banner On-Premise to Banner Hosted by Ellucian Finance, 14.5% Student, 13% HR, 14% 6

Survey Results (cont.) An estimated 34% of institutions running Banner hosted by Ellucian are planning to stay on this platform. This result is particularly interesting as it is lower than the overall percentage of Bannery by Ellucian customers that are planning to stay with the solution. Survey responses indicate that HR and Finance applications are being considered for the cloud more often than Student. This response makes sense in light of the fact that Oracle s Higher Education Student Cloud is incomplete and Workday s Percentage of Institutions That Plan to Stay with Banner Hosted by Ellucian Finance, 32% Student, 32% HR, 34% Of the institutions that are looking at alternative solutions, more are looking at Workday versus Oracle Higher Education Cloud. The Oracle Higher Education Cloud is a new solution and the survey does not ask about vendor familiarity. In other words, TTG does not know why more answered that they are looking at Workday versus Oracle Higher Education Cloud. Banner Institutions Considering Competitive Evaluations Finance Finance, 24% Finance, 32% HR HR, 22% HR, 33% Student Student, 19% Student, 27% 0% 5% 10% 15% 20% 25% 30% 35% Look at Workday Look at Oracle 7

Survey Results (cont.) Student solution is not available in general release. Workday has announced general availability of its Student solution in Q4 2016. Significant additional components of the Oracle Student Cloud will be available in 2017. Student HR Finance Look at Oracle 19% 22% 24% Look at Workday 27% 33% 32% TTG plans to continue to ask institutions about their plans in order to keep institutions informed about overall market changes. For more information about education technology trends, contact info@thetambellinigroup.com. 8

Methodology Research data for this report was compiled by TTG. TTG conducted in-depth interviews with a number of institutions that made either Oracle PeopleSoft version 9.2 upgrade, Oracle Higher Education Cloud, or Workday ERP and/ or Student migration selections. Both Oracle and Workday provided TTG with product briefings and information. In addition, Oracle and Workday received draft copies of this report and each provided edits and suggestions. TTG is not paid by Oracle or Workday to cover or review their respective solutions within higher education. TTG counts an institution as a vendor customer if the institution has an OPEID. If the institution does not have an OPEID, and the institution has selected a vendor solution, TTG assigns a TTG number. If a campus or school within an institution has an OPEID, TTG counts the institution with the number as 1. In this way, all vendors are equally counted and equally represented for purposes of calculating market share. TTG maintains, updates, and delivers the most comprehensive database of institution technology profiles available. The company began tracking this data in 2001 in response to client requests, and today provides data to global organizations and institutions. TTG gathers and maintains publicly available data on ERP and SIS selections from a variety of sources, including press releases, institution materials (i.e. project websites and presentations), news articles and vendor case studies. TTG conducts primary research including surveys and interviews with institutions. Institutions provide updates to technology profiles through online research portals on various TTG websites. While other firms have historically provided some information and opinions regarding market trends, the data to support these opinions has typically been provided by vendors minus detailed customer lists or by survey responses, which have limited response rates. Without the benefit of detailed, verified technology profiles, institutions, vendors, consultants and financial analysts were generally left on their own to try and find enough critical technology data to support important decisions. TTG s Education Institution Technology Profile DatabaseTM is used by institutions to find peers with similar technology implementations, for benchmarking comparisons, and vendor references. Vendors, consultants, financial analysts, investors and venture capitalists also utilize the database to gain insight into market share data and other facts about vendor sales history that are not available from any other single source. Prior to the availability of this database, it was difficult to track and understand market share data by vendor and vendor product. This report was informed by briefings with Oracle and Workday. In both cases, vendors provided detailed and helpful updates including suggestions for customer interviews. TTG wishes to especially thank the vendors for taking time to comment on market trends and issues. TTG also interviewed Oracle and Workday implementation partners for this report. The list of Workday implementation partners profiled is a complete list. The individual institution profile data is accessible on peertelligent.com, or on edu1world.org. Both sites are powered by TTG. 9
