ELECTRO-FENCE Fence Protection System System Manual EF_System_V1.1 Advanced Perimeter Systems Ltd., 16 Cunningham Road, Springkerse Industrial Estate, Stirling, FK7 7TP Tel: +44 (0) 1786 479862 Fax: +44 (0) 1786 470331 E-mail: sales@apsltd.net Website: www.apsltd.net

Electro-Fence The non-lethal Electro-Fence security system was developed to greatly enhance the physical perimeter fence by improving security at minimal cost. This system falls into the medium to highlevel security bracket including all the basic elements of a quality security system. The highly visible physical presence of the Electro-Fence, its warning signs and the visual effect of the insulators along the fence, all combine to promote a very strong psychological deterrent in preventing unwanted intrusion. Should an attempt be made to breach the Electro- Fence system the intruder would receive a nasty, but non-lethal, shock. The Electro-Fence is capable of detecting different types of attacks. Cutting, climbing, and shorting out of the wires. The number of shocks emitted is monitored and after a pre-determined number reached, an alarm is given. The casual trespasser will be dissuaded by the psychological deterrent, if not the actual shock of the system. However, the determined intruder will have to overcome the actual wires of the system and this is easily detected. Page 1

1 Specification The Electro-fence system is manufactured by Advanced Perimeter Systems Limited. Wires 95mm apart are attached to steel galvanised posts spaced around 3 metres apart. The 3 metre high system has 32 wires. The 2.4 metre high system has 25 wires. The 1 metre high system has 11 wires. POSTS All posts are hot dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461. The corner and straining posts are dimensioned at 25 x 25 x 5mm with the intermediate post 25 x 25 x 2mm. Use of the different post lengths ensures that there is a minimum of 600mm Electro-fence protruding above any existing fence. INSULATORS On a 3.0 metre fence, 32 low loss insulators are fitted at 95mm intervals. All APS low loss intermediate and end strain insulators are resistant to ultra violet and are coloured black for maximum UV resistance. GATES Gates, which are normally the weakest point in a system, are also protected with Electro- Fence. The single leaf gate, up to a span of 4 metres, uses a single section. Both gates have a High Voltage contact fitted, which will activate the alarm on the gate being opened. The High Voltage contact removes the voltage from the gate panels when the gates are open, ensuring that they are safe for personnel to pass through. LINE WIRES High tensile steel galvanised 2.5mm wire is used for all conductors and comes in drums of 650metres approximately. The wire is strained to 40-50kg between end posts. CONNECTING CABLES All High Voltage cables are constructed from galvanised steel wire with a UV resistant black polyethylene insulation. Page 2

ROOF AND WALL TOPS The walls and rooftops of buildings are protected with an 11 wire Electro-Fence. Where the top of a brick wall or the edge of a roof require protecting the use of 1 metre high sections using 11 wires is recommended and is constructed the same as for a fence. MULTI ZONE ENERGISER The APS multi zone energiser is manufactured to BS EN 60335-2-76 and will power six fence sections. An alarm will be generated if an intruder attempts to reduce the voltage on the fence, short circuit any of the wires or cut any of the wires. The multi zone energiser can be interfaced with any standard intruder alarm panel. Page 3

2 Costing GENERAL In order to provide a quick and accurate method of costing a project, the Electro-Fence system has been broken down into discrete sections. Each section has its own bill of materials listing so you are able to see exactly what items are required. The price for each section is shown in the price list. All sections are based on a width of 3 metres. ADDITIONAL FIXINGS An allowance should be made for any fixings required to attach the Electro-Fence posts to the existing fence posts as these have not been included in the bill of materials. METAL FENCE POSTS If the existing posts are made of metal then the Electro-Fence posts can be fixed by welding, self-drive and fix screws (TEKS) or Hilti pins. CONCRETE FENCE POSTS The Electro-Fence posts should be attached using stainless steel banding and banding blocks. If the top of the concrete post is cranked, this must be removed. CORNER POSTS AND STRAINING POSTS It is highly likely that the existing corner and strain posts will have to be replaced, reinforced or extended in order to take the strain of the Electro-Fence wires. You will need to cost for these separately. MAXIMUM STRAIN LENGTH The maximum fence length that can be strained is 150 metres. Therefore if a zone is longer than 150 metres additional end strain sections will be required. Page 4

3 Intermediate Section Intermediate sections are used to support the Electro-Fence wires. They are not capable of taking any great strain and should not be used if the fence changes direction by more than 20 degrees. The Electro-Fence posts are attached to the existing fence posts and extend above the original fence.
