BHA Visolite Tracer Compound Pink/Yellow Page 2 of 5 SECTION IV Fire and Explosion Hazard Data Flammability Class: N.A. Flashpoint: L.E.L.: Extinguishing Media Based on the NFPA guide, use dry chemicals, water or other extinguishing agent suitable for Class A fires. At higher temperatures, carbon dioxide would be released by mixture to help extinguish fires. Special Fire Fighting Precedures Clear area of personnel. Approach upwind. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Unusual Fires and Explosion Hazards Organic portions of mixture have been implicated in dust explosions ignited by static sparks. Fumes released on burning are toxic and dangerous. Section V Reactivity Data Stability: Stable Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur. Incompatibility: Avoid acids. Acids will generate carbon dioxide. Conditions to avoid: Avoid excessive dust in vicinity of electrical or spark generating equipment. Avoid extreme heat. Hazardous Decomposition Product: Heat will release carbon dioxide. The fumes and smoke released contain oxides of carbon and nitrogen, which are highly toxic. Do not breathe smoke or fumes. Wear suitable protective equipment.
BHA Visolite Tracer Compound Pink/Yellow Page 3 of 5 Section VI Health Hazard Toxicological Data Route of Exposure: Inhalation Hazard Determination: Nuisance dust Basis/Total Past: OSHA PEL = 15 mg/cu meter OSHA PEL = 5 mg/cu meter (respirable dust) ACGIH classifies components as a nuisance dust when toxic impurities are not present (i.e., Quartz less than.1%) Primary Routes of Exposure Eye Contact: Skin Contact: Inhalation: May cause irritation. May cause irritation. Treat as a nuisance dust. Avoid breathing. Symptoms of Acute Exposure Restrict exposure to below nuisance dust concentrations. Threshold limit value (TLV) should pose no acute health problems. Chronic Exposure As is true with any mineral product, long term overexposure to high concentrations of this dust, without the use of a dust mask, may produce x-ray evidence of dust in lungs. Proper dust mask is recommended when handling powder. Long term exposure may result in dermatitis for sensitive individuals. Aggravations of Existing Conditions Respiratory allergies and diseases may be aggravated in extreme exposure. Smokers will be more effected, when proper dust mask is not used. Ventilation Maintain general ventilation below the nuisance level of 15 mg/cu. meter. Protective Equipment Gloves: Eye Protection: Respiratory Protection: Use rubber gloves when handling powder. Goggles are recommended. Use an NIOSH/MSHA approved dust respirator. Section VII Spill or Leak Procedures Spill: Contain mix and recover. Dampen material to restrict dust formation. Use protective gloves, goggles and respirator to remove spill. Storage: Store in cool dry area. Disposal: In small quantities, may be disposed of as any dust or dirt. If large quantity is spilled, notify manufacturer.
