MARKETING & SALES Our Marketing muscles are being fl exed with each passing year and we are moving to keep pace with a techno savvy world where our customers, being multinational organisations, are needing our knowledge base to serve their needs in a demanding service delivery environment. To this end we have taken on board a number of initiatives to develop our reputation in the market which include a call centre helpdesk which not only deals with incoming customer queries but which also handles proactive marketing by engaging much of our client base and gauges trends in our market and also provides feedback in terms of our current service offering as well as changes and improvements which we can implement as our client s needs change in the varied sectors in which they operate. The use of electronic media is essential and we have developed a strong technological backbone through the use of a secure online purchasing environment as well as regular mailshots, e-catalogue strategies and customer feedback mechanisms for product evaluation. As new contracts come on board our team of sales staff on the road is increasing our market reach and the medium term future is taking shape towards increased coverage in this newer aspect of our service offering. 07 08
Full turn-key supply chain management. SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT Over the years we have developed different teams within our organisational structure which in turn have solidifi ed the core competencies which make up the full service that we offer. This has allowed us to stretch our coverage of customer requirements way beyond the traditional ambit of a logistics provider. By way of example we do not simply procure a garment but we now possess the competencies to evaluate the best fabrication and makeup according to the desired application in the market, and we bring that knowledge to our in-house design team who bear these details in mind while matching the look and feel of the offer to the basic demand of the environment in which the garment will be used. From a macro viewpoint our supply chain reach now includes the routing of a product from conceptualisation to fi nal delivery at point of use. If you need it, we ll fi nd it! Our dedicated warehousing and stock control procedures ensure that your products are available at all times, and delivered on time. 09 10
24-48hr delivery turn around. DISTRIBUTION AND WAREHOUSING National delivery is done door-to-door anywhere in South Africa. Sapphire Logistics uses a combination of our own vehicles and a contracted courier. Deliveries are also done into Africa and worldwide. Sapphire Logistics operates with a delivery turn around time of 24-48 hours, quotes are completed and communicated within that timing, dedicated invoice clerks, pullers and packers ensure all orders received by 15H00, are processed and dispatched the same day. Facilities for late and emergency orders are also available. 11 12
PROCUREMENT AND PRODUCT SOURCING The South African market has been exposed as a developing economy to the rigours of currency fl uctuations and internal market forces which have brought tremendous pricing pressure to the sectors in which we work. This demand has ensured that we have developed easily adaptable strategies to procure in varied ways depending on the state of international exchange rates as well as the availability of local raw materials at required quality specifi cations. As part of this strategy we have a sister company (born 3 years ago) called First Choice Promotions which has helped us in terms of delivery lead times using local manufacturing and thereby employing local staff and supporting local industry. We visit the East on a regular basis, visiting the Trade Fairs, in order to stay in touch with the latest trends in product design and development. We also have strong alliances with a good number of local and international manufacturers who are experts in their various disciplines. Our procurement philosophy is very simple: we go to source. This allows us to achieve the best possible price offering to our customers and cements our long term view in regard to our client relationships. We believe in the best business practise to bring the most competitive price to the market. 13 14
TECHNOLOGY Sapphire uses ACCPAC for our full inventory control program. ACCPAC software has a powerful report writer which allows us to design multiple reports for any specific use. This system uses a Microsoft 2000 communications server and a Microsoft Sequel database at our head office in Cape Town and is handling the connection in real time data with our Johannesburg branch. All information is stored and backed up on our main file server in Cape Town. Through this system Sapphire Logistics is able to perform the following functions: invoicing and credit notes; stock management/real time stock data; ordering, purchasing and maintenance of stock levels nationwide; maintenance of customer database; reconciliation s and report writing, production of monthly sales and stock report; online procurement. Sapphire Logistics has developed a successful secure online procurement solution for their existing client base. This includes a fully secure shopping environment allowing for the use of credit cards or EFT s on a specially designed website linked to the client. This system has proven powerful and flexible and Sapphire Logistics is in the position to add more clients to this base with ease. Providing real time solutions. Although our experience has been built around the oil industry it was not gained in their core business but around their secondary or value added business of forecourt, corporate wear and stationary items. This means that our systems and business philosophy have been developed and tested around logistics and supply chain management in one of the largest and most demanding business sectors in Southern Africa; the Retail Fuel Industry. We have successfully provided logistics solutions for our clients over the past 30 years and believe the experience that we have gained over this time has enabled us to expand into the banking and insurance sectors and the motor industry within Southern Africa. Numerous awards such as the distributor of the year award in 2004/2005 and a high level of service and commitment in the service category award in 2009 are a proof of this success. The reliability and flexibility of Sapphire Logistics has enabled us to add value to our clients brand and network. We have the experience, knowledge and expertise to provide real solutions for any client s needs in South Africa and further a field. 15 16
