Bioenergy New Zealand Biogass Renewables Economic Viability of Commercial Anaerobic Digestion Jandakot Bioenergy Facility in focus September 2017 Joseph Oliver, General Manager

About Biogass Renewables Biogass Renewables Pty Ltd (Biogass) (www.biogass.com.au) is an Australian private company specializing in the design, construction, commissioning and long-term support of anaerobic digestion (AD) plants and associated energy recovery projects. Biogass s focus is on stable, mature-technology, in-vessel biological processes converting organic materials and wastes into energy and biofertiliser. Biogass has the capacity to build turnkey solutions for the delivery of electricity, heat, biogas, bio methane (to mains natural gas standards), and compressed natural gas.

What is Anaerobic Digestion

AD Golden Triangle Use or Sell Power, Heat Or Gas Take Organic Waste or Produce Waste AD Use or Dispose of Biofertilser Digestate Food manufacturers Abattoirs/Hatcheries Supermarkets Cold Storage Composters Wastewater Treatment Municipal FOGO Breweries Agriculture Food/Agri Precincts

Jandakot Bioenergy Project

Decision for Anaerobic Digestion Richgro garden products A licenced waste receiver of organic waste streams predominately green waste from council collections Previous electricity costs from the energy retailer of $400,000+ / annum Enabling Richgro to take future higher revenue waste streams from contaminated organic waste Outputting a bio-fertiliser to blend with existing Richgro s product improving nutritional and breakdown characteristics To form a closed loop, with potential to utilise heat and CO2 produced on site

Case Study: Snapshot 35,000-50,000 tonne per annum foodwaste anaerobic digestion plant at Richgro Garden Products. Biogass Renewables is the project developer. Commissioned 2015. Designed to produce over 2MWe capacity electricity 1.7MWe to the grid. Sub 4 year payback on capital (before grants etc).

Jandakot Project Numbers Based on 50,000TPA Total capital spend $9.5Million Gate fees average $70/tonne - $3,500,000/annum Electricity saving of $400,000/annum Electricity export and LGC s to total $0.14c/KW - $1,700,000 Operational Expenditure $850,000/annum 3 x Full time operators Generation O&M at 2.5c/KW Payback on Investment 2 years after ramp up period

Typical Plant Layout

Alternative Outputs Biogass AD plants can be configured to produce: power (biogas generator) heat (biogas boiler, CHP, direct biogas 65% methane) natural gas (97% methane) Compressed Natural Gas (drop-in fuel legacy generators or transport fuel) or a combination of all of these.

Example of Biogas upgrade 50,000 tonnes per annum of food waste at 150m3/tonne of biogass Biogas to power a 600KW genset 24/7 with 660KW of thermal output Biogas to BioMethane 576m3 to give 324m3 / hour of BioMethane for compression to CNG To convert the above to give the diesel equivalent 1 litre of diesel is equivalent to 1.11m3 of biomethane Typically a truck will do 2.1KM / litre of diesel?? The plant will output 612KM of fuel / hour, 24/7 If diesel costs $1.20 / ltr the plant will generate $350 / hour of fuel The equivalent to $3M / year if all the fuel is used at the $1.2 rate
