OUR MISSION: WE ARE WORKING TOGETHER WITH MUNICIPALITIES AND COUNTIES TO BUILD A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE Building a sustainable future means one of our key tasks is to look for socially, economically and ecologically sustainable solutions that cater to the varied needs of different municipalities and counties. Our definition of sustainability also embraces social justice, gender equality and non-discrimination spanning across generations. Together with municipalities and counties means we form strong partnerships and networks with them.

OUR VISION: A SUCCESSFUL FINLAND MEANS LOCAL ACTION

OUR VISION: A SUCCESSFUL FINLAND MEANS LOCAL ACTION By 'local action' we mean that the best sustainable solutions to promote welfare and vitality emerge according to the principle of subsidiarity from bottom up action in local communities, municipalities, towns and cities, urban regions and counties based on their own circumstances. Municipalities and counties must have sufficient financial resources and operating frameworks, and a freedom to deliver their functions. In our vision for a successful Finland, the State s macro-level steering allows for consideration, development and innovation based on local circumstances. Giving local residents opportunities for participation and influencing decisions that affect them is the cornerstone of Finland s success. Each one of us has the keys for Finland s future success: local acts, both great and small, matter. A successful Finland is a locally global, networked and smart technology-based welfare society that constantly renews itself. Smart technology and information networks improve the synergies between the local and the global.

PRIORITIES: Staying one step ahead Cooperation across borders Culture of renewal

OUR VISION: A SUCCESSFUL FINLAND MEANS LOCAL ACTION WE INFLUENCE STAYING ONE STEP AHEAD We represent the interests of municipalities by ensuring that they have a pivotal role in promoting vitality, competence and welfare. We support municipalities and counties in anticipating and managing change. COOPERATION ACROSS BORDERS We ensure that municipalities and counties work together seamlessly for the good of local residents and communities. We promote regional and national cooperation. CULTURE OF RENEWAL The challenges of the years ahead require strong change management from municipalities and counties. We promote a culture of renewal and experimentation that will help to provide financial and operational benefits. PRIORITIES: Staying one step ahead Cooperation across borders Culture of renewal WE RENEW OURSELVES STAYING ONE STEP AHEAD Our members benefit most from a proactive representation of their interests, development work and services. We will enhance our capacity for anticipation in all aspects of our work. COOPERATION ACROSS BORDERS At the Association, we strengthen cooperation across different fields of responsibility. Our work is based on partnerships and networks with municipalities and counties. CULTURE OF RENEWAL A courage to reform lays the foundation for ongoing improvement of service delivery, development and methods of influence. That is why we at the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities promote a culture of continuous renewal and experimentation.
