LAINZER TIERGARTEN Since 2005, the nature reserve Lainzer Tiergarten is part of Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve. Over 800,000 visitors come every year in the local recreation area. The reserve has an area of 2,450 hectares and is surrounded by a wall approximately 21 km long.

Vienna refers pure drinking water from sources the Northern Limestone Alps: WATER FOR VIENNA The I. and II. Mountain Spring Pipeline provide Vienna in normal operation with 100 percent fresh spring water (daily consumption about 375,000 m3).

PRINCIPLES OF SPRING The use of chemical agents (fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides) and clear cutting is not allowed in water protection zones. Old forest stands and individual old trees are deliberately left untouched, just as ecologically valuable dead wood is left in the forests. PROTECTION FOREST MANAGEMENT The forest management centres additionally set great store by the protection and conservation of special habitats such as wetland biotopes, dry grassland, rough pasture and pockets of natural forest.

A special focus in the management of water protection zones is to preserve close-to-nature conditions, CABLE CRANE In sensitive areas, timber is harvested and removed with cable cranes or horse-drawn equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION learning with all senses The Municipal Department 49- Forestry Office and Urban Agriculture is one of the biggest environmental education institutions in Austria! 25.000 persons are guided in 1.000 tours per year.

The wien-lobau National Park Centre is the visitor centre for the Viennese section of the Donau-Auen National Park. learning with all senses wien-lobau NATIONAL PARK CENTRE Conceived as a multifunctional information and environmental centre right beside the entrance to the Lobau nature reserve, its objective is to introduce visitors to the fascinating world of the Danube wetlands. Themed walks, exhibitions, research evenings,... bring over 20,000 guests each year the habitat Donau-Auen closer.

Adventure walks provide visitors with the opportunity to experience the wetland habitat face to face, learn to tell the time from the position of the sun and work with a microscope. learning with all senses LOBAU NATIONAL PARK CAMP The range of options includes family, youth and children s camps (for school classes only) as well as guest camps and Euro camps.

The Landgut Wien Cobenzl, an agricultural estate managed by an organic farmer, is a project by MA 49 within learning with all senses THE CITY FARM FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY the framework of EULE, the environmental education programme of the City of Vienna.

The Lainzer Tiergarten Visitor Centre at the Lainzer Tor entrance offers visitors changing thematic exhibitions with information on this nature and wildlife reserve and its special features. LAINZER TIERGARTEN VISITOR CENTER The exhibition space at the Centre is open every day during the opening hours of Lainzer Tiergarten.

AGRICULTURE The city of Vienna leads with approximately 2,500 hectares one of the greatest agricultural enterprises in Austria. All acreages within Vienna (1,000 hectares) become organic-managed biologically.
