1 GUIDE SPECIFICATION EXETER VERSA SHIELD SECURITY SCREEN SYSTEM 1.01 WORK INCLUDED PART 1: GENERAL A. Provide for all labor, equipment, materials, and services to furnish and install VERSA SHIELD Window Screens and correlated components as specified herein and as shown by drawings. 1.02 RELATED WORK A. City of New York Department of Health Window Falls Prevention Program 1.04 TESTING AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Testing 1. Test Units - All tests, unless otherwise noted, shall conform to the ANSI/SMA 6001-2002 requirements for a Heavy 100 foot pound impact rating and the City of New York Department of Health Falls Prevention Program. All tests to be completed and Product Approval certification received prior to bid date. Any deviation from such will not be accepted. 2. Test Procedures and Performance - a. ANSI/SMA 6001-2002 1) Position and release pendulum system that when pulled back and released creates 50 foot pound force impact when striking the exterior center of the screen without failure. 2) Position and release pendulum system that when pulled back and released creates 100 foot pound force impact when striking the exterior center of the screen without failure. b. City of New York Department of Health Window Falls Prevention Program 1) Apply 150lb force at the center of the unit without failure 2) Apply 150lb force at the top of the unit without failure

2 B. 24 Hour Security Protection 1. Units must provide security protection. 2. Units must be in place 24hrs a day. 3. Units so designated must have emergency egress option. C. Sun Control 1. Units so designated to have a shading coefficient of up to.51. 2. Units so designated will have the ability to reduce solar heat gain by an estimated 50%. 3. The above requirements must be certified by an independent solar testing facility. D. E.M.I. Shielding Effectiveness 1. Units so designated to have a shielding effectiveness per the Dash, Straus & Goodhue study. 2. Units so designated and with the standard wool pile removed per specific project application shall have a shielding effectiveness of a least 93.69% attenuation effectiveness, when a tightly sealed electrical contact is made. 3. Units so designated and with the standard wool pile removed per specific project application shall have a shielding effectiveness of 24dB attenuation effectiveness, when a tightly electrical seal is made. 1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. General 1. All components must be assembled / manufactured at an ISO 9001-2000 certified facility. 2. Provide ANSI/SMA 6001-2002 test results. 3. Provide City of New York Window Falls Prevention Program certification. 1.06 SUBMITTALS A. Shop Drawings 1. Manufacturer shall supply completed shop drawings, location, diagrams and necessary details and erection notes to insure a proper installation. B. Samples 1. Submit samples of each required aluminum and steel finishes. 2. Submit additional samples as may be directed by the architect. C. Test Reports 1. Provide certified independent laboratory test reports verifying compliance with requirements in Section 1.03. 1.07 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Instructions 1. Handle and store shutters and accessories in strict compliance with the manufacturer s specific instructions.

3 1.08 WARRANTIES A. VERSA SHIELD 1. Materials for the above project will be free from factory defects in materials and workmanship for a three (3) year limited warranty. 2. The contractor shall assume the full responsibility for one year on the proper usage, design, handling, installation and anchorage as it relates to the structural attachment as outlined on the approved shop drawings and specifications. 2.01 Materials PART 2: PRODUCTS A. Extruded aluminum shall be 6063-T5 alloy and temper measuring 1.0 wide by 5/16 deep. 2. Nominal wall thickness for primary frame extrusions shall be a minimum of.090. 3. Nominal wall thickness for Versa-Shield surround shall be a minimum of.045. C. Steel 1. Galvannealed steel sheet shall be of 950 XK Structural Steel. Mill finish quality, domestic material. Material certification required. 2. Stainless Steel sheet shall be 304-2b Prime conforming to ASTM-A240. 3. Perforated metal sheet shall be of not more than 14 gauge and not less then 18 gauge galvannealed or stainless steel sheet. 4. Perforated pattern shall be InvisiPerf#1(TXL-22) or InvisiPerf #2 (TXL-23). Perforated sheet barrier pattern shall consist of staggered round holes, not to exceed 3/16 in diameter. Straight line hole patterns shall not be accepted. 5. Hole burrs on underside shall be minimal and not exceed.006 to maintain smoothness of sheet. 6. Perforated metal sheet shall have not less than 51% open air. D. Hardware 1. Vertically sliding units so designated to have spring loaded emergency egress barrel bolts mounted to the interior side of the unit at the sill, or optional single emergency egress latch. 2 Horizontally sliding units so designated to have two spring loaded emergency egress pull-latches mounted to the interior side of the unit at the jambs. 3 Vertically sliding units to have multiple stops to keep the barrier stationary.

4 4 Units designated as fixed windows to have maintenance-access custodial locks, allowing the windows to be cleaned and/or building maintenance performed. E. Anchors and Anchor Fasteners 1. Non-concealed anchors and tamper proof anchor fasteners may be of aluminum, stainless steel (300 series type), cadmium, zinc, nickel plated steel, brass and hot dipped galvanized. Non-treated corrosive fasteners are strictly prohibited. F. Bug Screen 1. 18x16 Fiberglass Mesh Bug Screen 2. Must be pulled tight to perforated metal infill to prevent damage, rips, tears, etc. 3. Secured with.187 spline 4. Installed by manufacturer 2.02 FABRICATION A. General 1. Depth of Versa-Shield surround shall be no more than 5/16. 2. Horizontal and vertical site lines shall be equal and not exceed 1 B. Frame 1. The Versa-Shield surround shall be made from extruded aluminum 6063-t5 alloy and temper measuring 1.0 wide by 5/16 deep with a minimum wall thickness of.045. Units so designated as operable to be encapsulated in 1.0 deep sliding frame pockets no less than.10 thick 2. The corners of the frame shall be precision mitered and fitted with four corner keys to aid in anti-torsion. 3. The Versa-Shield surround shall have a ridged groove measuring.430 long on the interior of the extrusion to tightly secure and encapsulate the perforated metal infill. 4. The Versa-Shield surround shall have a smooth grove running the entire length of the extrusion will allow for the use of anti-vibration wool piling. 5. The Versa-Shield surround shall have an interior slot for the installation of bug screening and spline. C. Finish - Aluminum (Select Organic or Anodic) 1. Organic - Finish all exposed areas of aluminum framing and components in accordance with AAMA 603.8 or 605.2 DESIGNATION DESC. AAMA SPEC AA-M12-C41-RIX Polycron III 603.8 AA-M12-C41-RIX Kynar Based 605.2 2. ANODIC - Finish all exposed areas of aluminum framing and components in accordance with AAMA 607.1 DESIGNATION CLASS DESC. AAMA SPEC AA-M12-C22-A41 I Clear Anodized 607.1

5 *Color to be selected by architect. D. Finish Two step marine grade powder coating finishing process for Perforated Galvannealed Steel Sheet 1. Zinc Epoxy Thermosetting Primer Coating a. All oil, grease, scale, and rust must be removed prior to pretreatment. b. Film thickness must be 2.0-3.0 mils baked to a smooth finish. c. Cure schedule is 10 minutes at 375 F peak metal temperature. d. Salt spray resistance per ASTM B 177 must be greater than 2000+ hours with less than 1/8 creepage and no blistering. 2. Black Product # PRPL98019 Polyester Thermosetting Powder Coating. a. All oil, grease, scale, and rust must be removed prior to applying finish. b. Film thickness must be 2.0-3.0 mils baked to a smooth finish c. Cure schedule is 10 minutes at 340 F peak metal temperature. d. Salt spray resistance per ASTM B 177 must be greater than 1000+ hours with less than 1/8 creepage and no blistering e. 60% gloss E. Finish Three step marine grade powder coating finishing process for Perforated Stainless Steel Sheet 1. Chemical or Abrasive Passivation process prior to coating 2. Zinc Epoxy Thermosetting Primer Coating a. All oil, grease, scale, and rust must be removed prior to pretreatment. b. Film thickness must be 2.0-3.0 mils baked to a smooth finish. c. Cure schedule is 10 minutes at 375 F peak metal temperature. d. Salt spray resistance per ASTM B 177 must be greater than 2000+ hours with less than 1/8 creepage and no blistering. 3. Black Product # PRPL98019 Polyester Thermosetting Powder Coating a. All oil, grease, scale, and rust must be removed prior to applying finish. b. Film thickness must be 2.0-3.0 mils baked to a smooth finish. c. Cure schedule is 10 minutes at 340 F peak metal temperature. d. Salt spray resistance per ASTM B 177 must be greater than 1000+ hours with less than 1/8 creepage and no blistering. e. 60% gloss. PART 3: EXECUTION 3.01 INSPECTION A. Job Conditions 1. Verify that openings are dimensionally within allowable tolerances, plumb, level and clean. Provide a solid anchoring surface in accordance with approved shop drawing. 3.02 INSTALLATION A. Use only skilled tradesmen with work done in accordance with approved shop drawing and specifications.

Plumb and align shutters in a single plane for each wall frame and erect barriers and material square and true, adequately anchored to maintain positions permanently when subjected to normal thermal and building movement and specified wind loads.
