basic to any approach toward protections of the aquatic environment in the Tampa Bay area would be a determination of the ambient water quality levels throughout the bay and its tributaries. Toward this end, we initiated in January 1972 a comprehensive sampling network to establish baseline data and to determine trends in future years in the quality of these waters. We trust that this first year s data will receive wide use and we feel certain that its value will be enhanced as we publish comparable data in subsequent years.
