Value chain and outlook
Key drivers in value chain From spot to industry Stability Long term planning and relations Profitability
Pelagic industry value chain Catch Processing Logistics Market
Value chain: Raw material supply Catch Processing Logistics Market Steady supply of raw material; Record high quotas Informal agreements with associated vessels Maintained share of total catches, even after closure of the Aalesund plant Expected increase to approx 40% after aquisition of Fryseriet in Lødingen.
Value chain: Production Catch Processing Logistics Market Structuring; Closure of Aalesund plant and aquisition of Fryseriet, Lødingen Industry structure is changing. 4 industry groups control 80% of the business. Best practice; Product standardisation og rationalisation Benchmarking to evaluate effects of adjustments and for controlling costs Focus on biproduct such as roe and waste from fillet production Increased degree of processing, more profitability
Transition to more fillets Catch Processing Logistics Market
Value chain: Logistics Catch Processing Logistics Market From spot to long term contracts; In cooperation with large customers, just in time delieveries Increased level of storage in Norway Control on flow of goods, securing quality and promptness. Control on transport and flow of goods
Value chain: Market Catch Processing Logistics Market Marked Production of sold goods, more contract based sales to industrial cooperative players Natural distribution of roles in the value chain Few full scale suppliers (pelagic supermarkets) One of the main strategies for NPEL was to achieve market power NPEL has a major presence and is setting the standards in many markets
Performance since startup
Outlook Strong demand and comsumption in Russia and Eastern Europe will be the main drivers for sales of both herring and mackerel in the top season. Underlying comsumption is strong, but financial stability and access of capital will have great importance for ability to put great volumes into the markets. Herring is still traditional food and is regarded as some of the cheapest proteins available. Transition to more herring fillets continues. Japan will have a key role in the success of this year s mackerel sales
Outlook; volume guiding Remaining quotas for 2H: NVG Herring: 550 000 tons compared to 475.000 tons last year Mackerel: 190 000 tons compared to 120.000 tons last year Total increase in remaining quotas: 145.000 tons Norway Pelagic aims to keep share of total landings at 38-40%, as we will benefit from inclusion of Fryseriet
