German international cooperation Financial cooperation Technical cooperation
Our services GIZ offices in more than 130 countries More than 16,000 staff across the globe continuous incountry assistance Technical Assistance in Partner Countries Capacity Development Project identification and preparation
How we work Capacity development: Technical trainings, cooperative strategy development, joint studies, trainings International dialogue: Exchange between government officials, workshops, conferences, study tours Localised solutions: Decision making tools, databases, emission models Access to climate finance: Project identification and preparation (TRANSfer)
Priority areas in transport Sustainable urban mobility Access and infrastructure management Climate change, fuels and energy efficiency
GIZ Transport and Mobility Projects
Examples of our work Transport demand management in Beijing Emission scenarios and policy design Move Windhoek Urban master plan and stakeholder engagement Peru National Programme on Sustainable Transport Policy identification and project preparation
TRANSPORT DEMAND MANAGEMENT IN BEIJING
Transport demand management in Beijing Project partner: Beijing and Shenzhen Transport Research Centres 1. Emission quantification and capacity development Adaptation of emission factors to Chinese driving situations Technical assistance with emission scenarios (training on the job) Trainings on application of localised emission modeling tool Commissioned by German Environment Ministry
Transport demand management in Beijing Project partner: Beijing and Shenzhen Transport Research Centres 2. Policy identification and technical policy support Scenario development for Beijing congestion charge (with international support and in cooperation with ADB) International exchange and capacity development on climate friendly transport policies Technical support on parking management in Shenzhen
TDM Beijing - Achievements The China Road Transport Emission Model / HBEFA China was developed Parking Management has been introduced in Shenzhen Beijing is able to introduce congestion charge Beijing established the Transport Energy and Emission Center (BTEC) Worldbank, MoT and cities use EU approach to quantify road transport GHG emissions HBEFA China is applied by 6 cities with in total 57 Mio inh. In 150 workshops/conferences, more than 6,000 people were trained
MOVE WINDHOEK
Move Windhoek: Sustainable Urban Master Plan for Windhoek Project partner: City of Windhoek, Ministry of Works and Transport 1. Technical support to Master Plan development Placement, location and standards of bus stops and taxi ranks Dedication of bus lanes Improving pedestrian access to public transport (walkways, over-head bridges ) Cycling lanes Joint masterplan development of GIZ with local and international consultants Commissioned by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
Move Windhoek: Sustainable Urban Master Plan for Windhoek 2. Active Stakeholder engagement Youtube: interviews with citizens and experts, video clips promoting road safety and further actvities Usage of Twitter, Facebook and direct dialogue formats for target-group oriented communication and discussions Website as central participation and information portal with interactive map, project news and documents Public consultations and events to raise awareness
PERU TRANSPORT NAMA DEVELOPMENT
Peru National Programme on Sustainable Transport Project partner: Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communication 1. Identification and development of NAMA proposal We support the design & development of Transport NAMAs We foster the development of MRV concepts as part of the national MRV systems Commissioned by German Environment Ministry We support the financial design of NAMAs and fundraising for their implementation We provide technical assistance for the implementation of transport NAMAs We promote the international learning process on transport NAMAs in the climate change and transport communities
Peru National Programme on Sustainable Transport TRANSPerú: Policy NAMA based on a comprehensive policy matrix Improving policy framework conditions Vehicle type approval & technical inspections Fuel economy standards Implementing adequate infrastructure Strengthening institutions Metro lines Optimised bus fleet Cycle lanes Dedicated transport authority GHG emissions are expected to be reduced by 5.6 9.9 MtCO 2 over the period of 2015-2025
Peru National Programme on Sustainable Transport 2. Aquisiton of project funding and implementation support Climate money leverages other funds GIZ project contribution to develop TRANSPeru: ~850.000 EUR NAMA Facility: 5m TA, 40m loan DKTI: 5m TA 60m loans Metro: 200m loan (KfW) billions from national government and other donors
