JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES: For this process, the CRA is accepting applications from students to fill positions in the Collections and Verification Branch (CVB), Revenue Collections and Client Services division in the Prince George Office for two back to back co-op/student terms for 8 months. The Canada Revenue Agency collects taxes and delivers social and economic benefits on behalf of the federal government to all Canadians. Your duties may include:

Initiate contact with taxpayers, their representatives, and third parties to gather information and documents in order to collect outstanding amounts and resolve/refer compliance issues for an assigned workload. Review and analyse accounts and taxpayer information to establish filing reporting and payment deficiencies, hardship, ability to pay, and identify sources of recovery. Receive and respond to mail, telephone and in-office enquiries and complaints from taxpayers and representatives. Verify or research taxpayer information and leads from inside the office by using internal and external sources and by making requests for fieldwork such as out of office interviews with taxpayer, attending insolvency proceedings, and other events. Initiate and follow through with all legal actions until completion in accordance with Agency policies and procedures to collect or encumber assets to safeguard the Agency s interests. Make recommendations for relief considering fairness provisions, remission guidelines, or writeoffs. Make recommendations for relief considering hardship criteria in relation to accounts managed by other government departments. Make referrals and transfer accounts to other areas within the Agency or externally. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are looking to gain valuable work experience in a large federal organization. Candidates will be asked to provide proof of their status as a student. DISCRETIONARY Successful completion of Introductory Financial Accounting (COMM 210). This staffing process will be conducted jointly with the staffing process for the co-op/student position in the Audit Division.
