Windsor Fireplace Installation Instructions Thank you for your purchase of the Windsor Fireplace from Natural Concrete Products. Please familiarize yourself with these installation instructions before you begin the installation. The materials included with your kit are listed below: Corner Block 6 H, 16 W, 8 D Garden Block 6 H, 16 W, 8 D SW Block 6 H, 16 W, 5 D Rundle Tile 11.5 X 23.5 18 pieces 19 pieces 8 pieces 6 pieces Rundle Tile 11.5 X 22 5 piece Lentil 6 H, 40 W, 8 D 1 piece Steel Insert 1 piece Insert Block (X) 6 H, 8 W, 8 D 2 pieces Half Corner Block Half Block (face on 2 sides) (face on 1 side) 6 H, 8 W, 8 D 6 H, 8 W, 8 D 4 pieces 1 piece Materials/tools needed: safety glasses, gloves, level, tape measure, caulking gun, concrete adhesive, shims (included), crushed rock (for base), and gravel.

Natural Concrete Products recommends that you obtain professional help in installing your fire place. If you install this fire place, use caution when lifting as the blocks included with this kit can weigh up to 50 lbs. Installation Tips: Read and familiarize yourself with the entire installation instructions before starting your project. For all courses, level the blocks and tiles from front to back and side to side. Some shimming may be necessary (shims are included in the kit). Visually inspect all rows before gluing as it is difficult to make changes afterwards. Use plenty of glue to ensure a tight bond between all blocks and tiles. Permits: Before you start your project, inquire about any zoning requirements and obtain any necessary permits. Be sure to call the diggers hotline to get your utility lines marked. Note: The Random Stone style of blocks have a face that sticks out farther (wider) at the bottom than the top. Install the blocks with this side down or as desired. The Fossill Stone blocks do not have a top or bottom and can be installed as desired. Important Product Information The fireplace steel insert is designed to dissipate heat as concrete blocks can crack due to high temperatures. These blocks are manufactured to meet industry standards and guidelines for retaining wall units (per ASTM standards). They are made with natural aggregates so some color variation is normal and efflorescence (a white powdery deposit that can appear on concrete products) may occur and can be washed off using an efflorescence cleaner. Keep the fire inside of the steel insert as blackening of the hearth caps may occur if they come in contact with the fire. For more information contact us at www.ncpwalls.com. The colors of concrete products can change over time due to: moisture changes in the product; sunlight fading or altering the colors; chemical staining from fertilizers, ice melts, etc; along with other reasons. To help avoid this, a concrete sealer can be applied to the product to help protect the natural appeal. If a sealer is used be sure to follow the directions of the applied sealer for proper application and maintenance. Step 1: Base preparation: The base can be either a concrete slab or compacted gravel. Here are the requirements for both options. Concrete base requirements: A concrete base foundation needs to be a minimum of 6 deep and extend a minimum of 6 outside the perimeter of the fireplace, (approximately 46 X 46 ). Reinforce the slab with rebar at 18 o.c. each way. Compact the sub-base to 95% of standard proctor. Aggregate base requirements: An aggregate base foundation needs to be a minimum of 12 deep and extend a minimum of 12 outside the perimeter of the fireplace, (approximately 50 X 50 ). Compact both the sub-base soil and the aggregate base to 95% of standard proctor.

Step 2 Step 3 Step 2: Install row 1 of blocks (4 corner and 4 garden blocks). Lay out the blocks as shown measuring diagonally corner to corner to ensure a square base. Level the blocks from front to back and side to side (this applies to all steps). Blocks may need to be shifted slightly in order to get a tight fit between all the blocks on the first course. Step 3: Install row 2 of blocks (3 corners, 3 garden blocks, and 1 half corner). Place the 2 blocks with an X into the back corners. Next, place the first corner block on top of the bottom row staggering the intersection of two blocks on the row below. Continue around the rectangle making slight adjustments as needed so that the edge of the blocks fit tightly together. Once the blocks are level and in place vertically, proceed to step 4. Step 4 Step 5 Step 4: Install the steel insert. Place the steel insert into the fireplace base with the back of the insert resting on the 2 (X) blocks in the back corners. There will be a gap between the blocks and the insert of approximately 1 to 2. Now ensure the blocks in row 2 are level, remove them one by one and glue to the blocks below. Step 5: Install row 3 of blocks (3 corners, 1 half corner, 3 garden blocks). Start with a half corner block as shown and continue around the rectangle making slight adjustments as needed. The backs of the blocks should be close to flush with the backs of the blocks of the row below. Using a tape measure or level, ensure the blocks are stacked vertically. Once the blocks are level and in place, remove them one by one and glue to the blocks below. The figure on the left is illustration of block placement. The figure on the right shows installation through step 5.

Step 6 Step 6: Install row 4 of blocks (3 corners, 3 garden blocks, and 1 half corner block). Start with a corner block as shown and continue around the square making slight adjustments as needed. The backs of the blocks should be flush with the backs of the blocks of the row below. Using a tape measure or level, ensure the blocks are stacked vertically. Once the blocks are level and in place, remove them one by one and glue to the blocks below. The figure on the left is illustration of block placement. The figure on the right shows installation through step 6. Step 7 Step 7: Install row 5 of blocks (3 corners, 1 half corner, 3 garden blocks). The figure on the right shows installation through step 7.

Step 8 Step 8: Install row 6 of blocks (2 corners, 3 garden blocks, and 1 half block). Start with a corner block as shown and continue around the square making slight adjustments as needed. The backs of the blocks should be flush with the backs of the blocks of the row below. Using a tape measure or level, ensure the blocks are stacked vertically. Once the blocks are level and in place, proceed to step 9. The figure on the left is illustration of block placement. The figure on the right shows installation through step 8. Step 9 Step 9: Install the lentil. Set the lentil in place as shown above. Once it is level and in place, remove it and glue to the blocks below. Remove the blocks placed in step 8 (row 6) one by one and glue to the blocks below. The figure on the left is illustration of block placement. The figure on the right shows installation through step 9.

Step 10 Step 10: Install the 1 st row of Rundle Tiles (2-11.5 X 23.5 tiles and 4-11.5 X 22 tiles). Place the tiles around the base as shown. Using a tape measure, place the tiles to have approximately the same overhang on the front and back and the same side to side. Some shimming may be required to get the tiles level. Once the tiles are level and in place remove them one by one and glue to the blocks below. The figure on the left is illustration of tile placement. The figure on the right shows installation through step 10. Step 11 Step 11: Install 1 st row of blocks in the top section (4 corners and 2 SW blocks). Place the blocks as shown above measuring to have approximately the same distance from both sides and the same distance from the front and back of the edges of the Rundle Tiles in step 10. (the backs of the SW blocks should be close to flush with the tiles below). Some shimming may be required to level the blocks as the Rundle Tiles have a slate texture on the top. Once the blocks are level and in place remove them one by one and glue to the blocks below. The figure on the left is illustration of block placement. The figure on the right shows installation through step 11.

Step 12 Step 12: Install the 2 nd row of blocks in top section. (4 corners and 2 SW blocks). Place the first corner block on top of the bottom block staggering the intersection of two blocks on the row below. Continue around the square making slight adjustments as needed so that the edge of the blocks fit tightly together. Once the blocks are level and in place, remove them one by one and glue to the blocks below. The figure on the left is illustration of block placement. The figure on the right shows installation through step 12. Step 13 Step 13: Install the 3 rd row of blocks on the top section (4 corners and 2 SW blocks). The figure on the right shows installation through step 13.

Step 14 Step 14: Install the 4th row of blocks on the top section (4 corners and 2 SW blocks). The figure on the right shows installation through step 14. Step 15 Step 15: Install top layer of Rundle Tiles (4 11.5 X 23.5 tiles). Place the tiles around the top section as shown. Using a tape measure, place the tiles to have approximately the same overhang on the front and back and the same overhang side to side. Some shimming may be required to get the tiles level. Once the tiles are level and in place remove them one by one and glue to the blocks below. The figure on the left is illustration of tile placement. The figure on the right shows installation through step 15.

Step 16 Step 16: Install hearth (1 11.5 X 22 tile). Place the piece of tile in between the sides of the steel insert on the bottom row of blocks. The amount of overhang to the front can be as desired. Once the tile is in place, remove it and glue to the blocks below. Place approximately 6 of gravel in the bottom of the fire place. Installation is complete.
