INSTALLATION a) Package When talking about a mini tower package, it always refers to a set of 2 mini tower systems. A complete 6,5m high mini tower system consists of merely standard ALC Truss products, transported by means of a dolly system, which clicks on the stacked truss sections. The dollies contain the necessary pins and hammers to combine the trussing sections into various applications, as in this case the S-60-MI 500kg tower system. All non standard trussing items like top and base sections are transported in a specific flight-case. The system is designed to take a minimum of transport space: in a standard truck a package of 2 mini towers takes approx. 1,2 m² of loading surface (2,45m high). This manual explains about the S-60-MI2 second version mini tower. This new version gives the user the choice of having the hoist either above the speakers, either fixed to the back of the tower basis (below). b) Handling and set-up time The mini tower system is very easy to set-up by min. two persons, and will only take about 10 minutes of work, once familiar with the products. The special design of the connection system and its tools, result in an efficient and fast set-up. c) Contents of package (set of 2 mini towers) CODE DESCRIPTION # S-60-24 Stackable triangle truss - 60cm x 60cm - 2,4m section 4 S-60-12 Stackable triangle truss - 60cm x 60cm - 1,2m section 2 S-60-TP Truss Pin including safety system 30 S-60-HM HaMmer / Drive-out pin 2 S-60-DL DoLly 2 S-60-MB Mini tower Base section incl. 2 insertable legs + 2 pins 2 S-60-MT2 Mini tower Top section v.2 incl. 2 pins / 2 chain wheels 2 S-60-TT Tower Top including 2 wheels / 2 truss pins 1 S-60-SP 40cm Screw-Jack (Foot Spindle) 8 A-RS-04 4m 1ton round sling 2 d) Chain hoist The use of each S-60-MI tower requires a standard electric / manual (chain) hoist with a capacity of 0,5 ton. This hoist, with a minimum chain length of 15m, must be conform with the 98/37/EC directives, specific national regulations for lifting equipments as well as maintenance procedures. The chain hoists are not included in the package. ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 3
EQUIPMENT HANDLING DO S V DON T S X Use the right side of the hammer (S-60-HM) to connect the truss elements. Always assemble from the in- to the outside of a truss. Always use 2 hammers in order to drive out a pin. PIN SAFETY PROCEDURE When connecting two truss elements by a truss pin, make sure the cable (with the safety at the end) is perpendicular to the truss length. This makes the connection of the safety to the pin easier, since the cable length itself is kept at a minimum. ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 4
In order to separate the truss sections from a package of maximum 5 sections of the same length, first make sure the package is standing upright with its fork-connections pointing downwards. Handling is most easy by two persons, who lift the first section slightly, and then move it out of the package starting at the bottom. The inverse procedure is used for stacking truss sections of the same length. ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 5
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Please take notice of following safety instructions in order to assure a safe preparation, set-up and operation of the S-60-MI mini tower system: Always wear the appropriate clothing before handling the tower system: We advise you to wear safety-gloves, -shoes and helmet, which are able to provide you a basic protection against possible occurring injuries. The lifting of persons is prohibited, as well as the climbing of persons on the structure. The only persons allowed to climb the mast or structure are those in charge of the loading and its fixation to the mast, or other actions in terms of the positioning of the loading equipment. You are only allowed to climb the system once the load is applied to the structure. This manual states clearly what the possibilities are of the tower system and how it should be handled. No other actions or applications than mentioned in this manual are allowed, since they may result in an unsafe situation of which personal or property damage can result. The installation of the tower system must be executed by min. two persons in a good physical condition (not under influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other psychedelic products). While installing the tower, always keep your focus on the product, in order to give absolute priority to safety (mobiles turned off, ). Never leave the tower system unguarded while setting it up. So once the set-up has started, the two persons involved should finish the actions till the tower system is ready for lifting the load, without leaving the structure. After each installation and operation of the S-60-MI tower system, each part of the total structure must be inspected on possible damages. In any case, the ALC Truss company does not take responsibility in any way for any of your actions during the preparations, set-up, operation and the lowering and packing of the tower system. GENERAL CONDITIONS OF SETUP Given the above safety instructions, make sure the following both general as environmental conditions are guaranteed: As clearly shown on the product label and noted further in the set-up manual, the allowable vertical load is strictly limited to 0,5 ton. The system is certified to be used only INDOORS. For outdoor use, we recommend to use the S-60-TO or S-60-GP resp. tower and goalpost systems. Specific demands in terms of underground/soil surface structure and pressure capacity are to be regarded: the direct local ground pressure should be divided through for example (metal) distribution plates under the structure feet, when used on for example sandy undergrounds. Be aware that when setting up the tower system, you need at least a rectangular space of about 4m wide and 8m long. During set-up, make sure this space does not block any important passages or so. Once upright, the tower basis takes less than 2m² of space. It is advisable to restrict an additional area of 10m² around the tower, for example by fences. While preparing and setting up the tower system, make sure only people involved with its set-up are allowed in the neighbourhood of the tower. ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 7
SET-UP Insert each of the 2 legs into the base section (S-60- MB), and secure its position with a trussing pin. NOTICE : If you are unable to insert the trussing pin, this means the leg is inserted upside down into the base section. (The orientation of the legs is important for stability reasons). Place the base section horizontally, with the lugconnectors pointing upwards. Insert each of the 4 screw-jacks into the base end tubes. It is advised to place woodpats under each screw-jack (depending on the soil pressure capacity) Level the base structure accurately. Assembly of the tower mast starts (in its maximum height configuration) by attaching the S-60-12 1,2m truss section fork connectors to the base section with 2 trussing pins. The truss section is placed horizontally in order to attach the other truss sections. ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 8
SET-UP Attach a S-60-24 2,4m truss section to the 1,2m section by using 3 truss pins. Attach the second S-60-24 2,4m truss section to the first 2,4m section by using 3 truss pins. NOTICE : This is the maximum mini tower mast length (6m mast length). It is allowed to build the mini tower at lower heights by making other truss mast configurations. Attach the S-60-MI2 tower top (v.2) to the mast end truss section, by first fixing the apex-pin, then the remaining 2 pins. Therefore lift the truss mast so the tower top rotates till its fixing position, as shown beside. ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 9
SET-UP NOTICE : Once the tower top is fixed to the truss mast, there are 2 options : 1. Installation where the hoist is positioned at the back of the tower basis (hoist stays down) 2. Installation where the hoist is positioned between the load and the tower top (hoist going up) First option 1 is explained. For option 2, please proceed to page 13. OPTION 1 : HOIST STAYS DOWN 700mm 400mm Attach one chain wheel to the upper tower top hole with a trussing pin. The other chain wheel is attached to one of the lower (front) rigging points (choose the appropriate rigging point depending on the load dimensions : approx. 400 or 700mm in front of truss mast). ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 10
SET-UP Place the chain hoist at the rear of the structure basis. The hoist chain now passes the tower top via the 2 chain wheels, the chain hook is fixed to the first truss section. IMPORTANT NOTICE : Make sure the hoist chain is not twisted axially between the 2 chain wheels. A A Attach the 1 ton round-sling to the tower basis as shown beside. The middle of the round-sling is located near the lugconnector of the tower base, each sling-end then passes the triangular space at the sides of the tower base and slings around the rear tube of the base. Both ends attach to the hoist hook. Make sure the remaining sling length is equally divided left and right (A). ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 11
SET-UP Now the truss mast can be put upright : A minimum of 2 persons lift the truss mast near the tower top, and push the mast till its vertical position while they move towards the tower basis. NOTICE : It is strongly advised to place a third person on the tower base section, to prevent the total structure from sliding backwards. Lock the mast position by fixing the 3 rd trussing pin at the back of the tower base. Attach both sling ends to the hoist, preferably by using a shackle. Once the load is attached to the chain hoist hook (rigging point) in front, the hoist will be lifted to its position by operation of the hoist. The load will be lifted once the hoist is in position. ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 12
SET-UP Now option 2 is explained (refer page 10), in case the hoist will be located between the load and the tower top piece (refer first S-60-MI version). OPTION 2 : HOIST GOES UP 670mm 370mm No chain wheel is used in this configuration. The chain hoist hook is attached directly to the appropriate (one of both) rigging point by using a trussing pin. Choose one of both rigging points depending on the required distance to the mast. Now the truss mast can be put upright : A minimum of 2 persons lift the truss mast near the tower top, and push the mast till its vertical position while they move towards the tower basis (refer page 12). NOTICE : It is strongly advised to place a third person on the tower base section, to prevent the total structure from sliding backwards. Lock the mast position by fixing the 3 rd trussing pin at the back of the tower base. ALC Truss S-60-MI2 Mini Tower v.2 Manual Version 1.2 13
