2 The hot-rolled seamless mechanical tubes are used in the mechanical field as well as in the field of machinery construction. They are produced in accordance with the current reference regulations and in compliance with the UNI EN10297:2003 standard. The supplied tubes are produced with a wide range of grades and dimensions, designed both for traditional and for special applications.
Hot-rolled seamless steel tubes for mechanical applications Product description and applications Tenaris produces tubes for mechanical applications in accordance with the European EN 10297-1 standard and the current national regulations. The steel grades provided are listed in the following table. The table also specifies an approximate correspondence between the steel grades foreseen by different regulations. The products described by such regulations are to be used in the fields specified by the Machinery directive 98/37/EC, as well as in mechanics and in the field of machinery construction. Particular applications, such as pressure vessels and structural applications, are not included. Such applications refer to different EN standards, EC directives or national laws in force in the different countries where the products are used. Service Centre IMS S.p.A. has various Service Centres at its disposal, where it is possible to ask for additional machining operations, such as custom-made cuts, chamfering, drilling and boring, as well as to agree on quantities, markings, and packaging different from the ones included in this catalogue. 1. Dimensional tolerances In accordance with the DIN1629 and EN10297-1 standards. The table of the dimensional range contains all the possible dimensions which are not included in the regulation. B Option It is possible to agree on tolerance values not included in the table. Straightness: 1.5 e4 4. Lengths The products are supplied in commercial lengths. 5. Controls The product undergoes the following tests: - Cast analysis - Tensile strength test - Impact test (only for normalized or quenched & tempered products) - Electromagnetic test. - Visual and dimensional control. D Option Specific additional controls can be agreed at the moment of the order. C Option At the moment of the order, it is possible to ask for non-standard lengths. 6. Surfaces The surface of the supplied products is hot-finished. Service Centre The Service Centre can supply fixed length cuts with -0 + 5 mm tolerance values. 7. Certification The supplied products have the 3.1 specific approval test certification in compliance with the EN 10204 standard. IMS S.p.A. guarantees the total traceability of its products. The casting number is written on each tube. C Option At the moment of the order, it is possible to ask for a 3.2 certification. Should a 3.2 certification be necessary, then the customer will have to inform the organisation or the person who is responsible for the inspection as soon as the order is sent. 5
9. Identification and marking In order to be identified, the mechanical tubes are marked along their entire length with the following information: Painted: - Manufacturer s trademark - MT - Steel grade - Manufacturing norm - Outside diameter x Wall thickness - S (Production process) - Casting HARDNESS JOMINY TEST ON STEEL 16MnCrS5 IMS DISTANCE (mm) Through dye stamping: - Manufacturer s trademark - MT - Steel grade - S (Production process) - Plant inspector JOMINY TEST ON STEEL 30CrMo4 IMS F Option It is possible to demand the colour coding of one end only. 9. Packaging For diameters above 200 mm: loose For diameters b2 200 mm: in bundles IMS S.p.A. provides technical assistance for custom-tailored applications and usages according to the product. Hardenability - Jominy Test The hardenability of casehardening as well as quenched & tempered steels is assessed by carrying out a Jominy Test: a steel sample is hardened in the standard way, then the HRC hardness values are measured at various distances from the hardened end. IMS S.p.A. is able to commercialize steel types with a limited hardness deviation from the values foreseen by the regulation. HARDNESS JOMINY TEST ON STEEL 42CrMo4 IMS DISTANCE (mm) DISTANCE (mm) 6

TAM Plus Seamless steel tubes for mechanical applications, quality above the standard level thanks to: - machinability - limited tolerance values on diameter and thickness - straightness. Machinability Thanks to the lubricating quality of the tool-chip interface, the micro-inclusions of manganese sulphide into steel can delay the wear of the cutting edge and allow the chip crashing, thus making it easier to work the piece. Advantages Lower tool temperatures with the same cut, and the possibility to increase the cutting speed. Reduction of the cutting effort and less wear and tear, which leads to a longer tool life. Reduction of the built-up edge. Easily removable chip. Limited tolerance values on wall thickness Thanks to the Diescher cross rolling process and to the continuous investments in technology, Tenaris is able to guarantee limited tolerance values, measured on the total length of the tubes, as shown in the table on page 11. Advantages Absence of raw residues after mechanical working. Reduction of the tube weight, as a lower thickness is necessary to obtain the dimension of the finished piece through mechanical working. Straightness Thanks to the controls carried out on the process, it is possible to obtain a percentage of straightness equal to or lower than 1, which can be cumulated on the entire length of the tube. Advantages Better concentricity with consequent reduction of the chips which need to be removed. Fewer vibrations/oscillations inside the machine. Reduction of the machine standstills. Higher productivity. 8
