OVERKOTE E-100 Epoxy Floor Coating Technical Data PRODUCT DESCRIPTION OVERKOTE E-100 is a floor coating system applied at a thickness of 16 to 50 mils. It is designed for long term protection of concrete in light to medium service areas. It protects against intermittent chemical spills, splashes and power washings and has excellent abrasion resistance against foot and rubber covered wheel traffic. This coating can be used in various ways: 45-50 mil anti-skid textured surface, a 16 mil smooth finish, or a glaze coat over a heavy duty topping. OVERKOTE E-100 is a 100% solids copolymer resin system. The low viscosity and self leveling properties permit easy application by squeegee and then rolling with a short nap roller. It can also be rolled onto vertical surfaces using OVERKOTE E-100 V. FEATURES and BENEFITS Chemical Resistant: Has high resistance to acids, alkalis, and solvents. The Corrosion Resistance Chart in the Product Recommendation Guide lists a variety of chemicals and expected performance with each. Ability to bond to 10 day old concrete: OVERKOTE E-100 can be applied to properly mixed and placed new concrete that has been cured for a minimum of 10 days at 70 F. The bond strength of the OVERKOTE E-100 to the concrete will exceed the tensile and shear strengths of the concrete itself. For bonding limitations, consult the factory. Adhesion: Excellent adhesion to properly prepared concrete, brick, tile and many other building materials. Set Time: Cured adequately for next coating in 6-8 hours at 70 F. OVERKOTE E-100 Coating is available in ten aesthetically pleasing colors. Special colors and surface texture are available upon request. TYPICAL USES OVERKOTE E-100 is used where one or more of the following properties are required: High wearability Anti-skid safety surfaces (when used with a broadcasted aggregate) Corrosion resistance Ease of cleanability and maintenance Aesthetically pleasing surfaces TYPICAL OVERKOTE E-100 APPLICATIONS Walkways Warehousing Storage areas Manufacturing Permanent marker lines Show rooms Clean rooms Boiler plants Laboratories Animal Treatment Areas APPLICATION THICKNESS OVERKOTE E-100 has a tenacious adhesion to concrete. It will not lift or crack under static or dynamic loads unless the underlying concrete fails. Concrete failure is evidenced by powdering, crazing, spalling or cracking. OVERKOTE E-100 cushions the concrete from failing. This cushioning effect increases in proportion to the thickness of the coating applied. Light to medium duty service requires a 16 mil (smooth) or 45-50 mil (antiskid) coating. This is the range that OVERKOTE E-100 is designed to handle most economically. For heavier duty service refer to the OVERKOTE Technical Bulletin. PACKAGING OVERKOTE E-100 is packaged in two kit sizes: 1 gallon 3 gallon Overkote E-100 Bulletin Page 1
Mixing ratios are shown on the product labels. Aggregate for anti-skid is not packaged with the standard units, and must be purchased separately. preparation, coverage, clean-up, safety SURFACE PREPARATION New Concrete Laitance must be removed by muriatic acid etching or shotblasting. On concrete that has been cured with curing compounds or has a burned in finish, shotblasting or sandblasting is required. Existing Concrete Concrete must be sound, and old coatings and toppings must be removed. Concrete must be clean and free of previous coatings, oil, wax, paint, and other contaminants. Water soluble contaminants can be hosed off with water. Water insoluble materials will require the use of a cleaner degreaser or some other method of removal. Concrete must be visibly dry at time of application. MIXING Note: Before starting, ensure that the material, concrete surface, and the ambient air are all 65-90 F. Mixing of OVERKOTE E-100 is ideally accomplished using a Birdcage or Jiffler mixer and electric drill. APPLICATION OVERKOTE E-100 for an anti-skid finish does not require a primer or sealer. However when applying a smooth 16 mil finish, a primer must be used to help ensure a smooth finish. Apply with a squeegee followed by a short nap roller. Refer to Prime and Seal Primer Technical Bulletin. NOTE: Application procedures are described in further detail in the Application Instructions. These should be read before use. COVERAGE 16 mils (coverage rates will vary depending on surface texture). Smooth Finish - applied in two coats. 1st Coat (5-8 mils) 2nd Coat (8-12 mils) 45 to 50 mils Anti-skid Finish 1st Coat no less) while wet 2nd Coat* 200-320 sq ft per gal 135-200 sq ft per gal - applied in two coats.* (3 steps involved) 100 sq ft per gal (16 mils; Aggregate broadcast 100 sq ft per gal** * The 2nd coat anchors the aggregate. ** This will vary, based on coarseness of aggregate used. For special textures or decorative effects, consult application instructions. FILLING AND PATCHING Use the OVERKOTE (topping material), adding Part "D" aggregate to the mix before pouring. OVERDRIVE or BLOKFIL may also be used. CLEAN UP Xylene can be used to remove material from equipment if it is cleaned before the material Overkote E-100 Bulletin Page 2
has started to set up; otherwise, stronger solvents such as methylene chloride will be necessary. Refer to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for clean up materials to ensure safe use. If there are any questions on the use of this product, please consult our technical service department. SAFETY OVERKOTE E-100 contains amine curing agents. Avoid skin contact. In case of eye contact or ingestion, contact a physician immediately. In case of skin sensitivity to these materials, use protective clothing and gloves. MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS Material Safety Data Sheets are available upon request. It is strongly recommended that they be read by all persons handling OVERKOTE E-100. Overkote E-100 Bulletin Page 3
