Green and Safe transport in Commerical Shipping - «GreenSafeShipping - GSS» Sponsored by Norwegian Research Council MAROFF 2012-2014

GSS-Challanges World s population is growing, and so is international shipping, and related emissions. IMO forsee challanges: 1) Emission of Greenhous gases from shipping may rise from 3% to 15% of total in 2050 2) Number of accidents are increasing, causing environmental impacts Can we do anything about it??

Today

GSS Main Goal In the GSS-project, Navtor, StormGeo and Telko will join forces, and develop a new holistic concept for Planning and Navigation. Demonstrations in Telko ECDIS and BOB NavStation... or in short: From Paper to Digital!

Shorebased Routing Communication NavStation NavServer Seaware Server ECDIS Shore based allows for: - One click UI for Navigator to request routing from ECDIS or Planner - High Quality Routing due to full resolution of weather/wave/sea data - Complete 2D wave spectra (not a few wave trains only) - Benefit from probability based weather forecasts (EPS) - Powerful super-computers - Small communication costs; Almost no data to exchange shore-ship

Outcome/Innovation The primary innovation objective is: To provide the participating companies with a harmonized package of the most advanced and efficient e-navigation components in the market. The concrete results of the project are new ship and shore components as illustrated below. Planning station ECDIS Cooperative decision support Shared situation awareness Ship/Shore digital communication VTS Prediction and hot spot detection Cooperative decision support Shared situation awareness e-navigation contributions and know-how Simulator and assessment tools Ship systems Shore systems Demontration will be with real vessels using live ship/shore communication to exchange e-navigaton information with the VTS-station
