GLOBAL CHALLENGES THE CURRENT WORLD POPULATION IS OVER 7 BILLION, WHICH IS EXPECTED TO REACH 9.1 BULLION BY 2050.
GLOBAL CHALLENGES - HUNGER ALTHOUGH THE WORLD PRODUCES ENOUGH FOOD TO FEED EVERYBODY, THERE ARE STILL AROUND 795 MILLION PEOPLE HUNGRY. THIS MEANS THAT ONE IN EIGHT PEOPLE GO HUNGRY EVERY DAY.

TO ACHIEVE OUT OBJECTIVES, WE PROVIDE TECHNICAL AND POLICY EXPERTISE TO: ENSURE that food is produced in ways that serve the best interests of farmers, consumers and society as a whole. ASSIST governments to formulate national strategies, policies and programmes for agriculture, food and rural development. ASSIST partners in member countries to promote equitable use of natural resources. IDENTIFY, formulate and implement projects and programmes in the field throughout the region.
OUR WORK INCLUDES: PUTTING INFORMATION WITHIN EASY REACH Maintaining the FAO Statistical Database with over one million time-series records from over 210 countries. Producing hundreds of flagship publications that analyse and interpret the latest data.
OUR WORK INCLUDES: PROVIDING A MEETING PLACE FOR NATIONS Providing forum for nations to negotiate responsibilities and obligations. Organizing high-level summits to mobilize political action and establish targets to fight hunger.
OUR WORK INCLUDES: SHARING POLICY EXPERTISE Assisting countries in designing and implementing policies that improve food and agricultural production to help reduce hunger and poverty. Helping to produce guidelines for governments to safeguard the rights of people to own or access land, forest and fisheries.
OUR WORK INCLUDES: BRINGING KNOWLEDGE TO THE FIELD Our breadth of knowledge is put to the test in thousands of field projects throughout the world. In crisis situations, we work sideby-side with the WFP and other humanitarian agencies to protect rural livelihoods and help people rebuild their lives.
OUR WORK INCLUDES: ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE RISKS TO FOOD SECURITY Support member countries to prepare for and implement priority actions in agriculture sectors to tackle the drivers and impacts of climate change, as articulated through Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

No more than 30 years of age; GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Be recent graduates or graduate school students and/or at the very least completed two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to the work of FAO; A working knowledge of English, French or Spanish. Knowledge of one of the other two, or Arabic, Chinese or Russian, is an asset; Must not be son, daughter, brother, or sister to staff members of the Organization.
Interns receive a monthly stipend up to the amount of US$700 (subject to change by location); REMUNERATION In some cases, the terms of sponsored internships may vary depending upon the agreement between FAO and the institution sponsoring the intern.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS Duration: for individual applicants, the assignment usually ranges from 2-6 months to a maximum period of 11 months; Interns who are sponsored, the maximum duration of the internship is defined by the agreement between FAO and the sponsoring institution; Applicants should apply to the Internship Programme only if they meet the minimum criteria.
