We recently merged City College Coventry and Henley College Coventry to make the new Coventry College. Between us we have been delivering learning and training to employers, young people and adults in Coventry since 1828 from our early origins as the Mechanics Institute. FACILITIES We benefit from modern facilities which include over a dozen workshops that are furnished with state of the art equipment. PARTNERSHIPS We work closely with CITB who can advise you how you can use your CITB levy to fund qualifications. OVERVIEW OF PROGRAMMES We currently offer Apprenticeships at intermediate and advanced levels offering individuals to become technically competent in their chosen trade. Intermediate (Level 2) Advanced (Level 3) Bricklaying Painting and Decorating In addition to completing and achieving the knowledge based qualifications you will prepare a summative portfolio comprising elements of your substantive projects plus a synoptic project. You ll also need your employers endorsement in the form of a reference and you will complete a final assessment interview with a panel of external assessors who will assess your final project, summative portfolio and grade you following the interview. Plastering Plumbing Property Maintenance Site Carpentry Plumbing Site Carpentry The duration is typically 18-24 months but will depend on experience. There are two stages to assessment: = You will be visiting by your assessor in the workplace to complete competancy based assessments. You will also be required to complete regular exams within the college which include Health & Safety. = End point assessment this will be required if you are completing a new standard qualification and will take place in an external assessment centre. BENEFITS All successful apprentices will have the relevant qualifications to be able to apply for a CSCS card as a trade professional. Where you require English or maths qualifications we will agree a flexible package of support that works for you. You will need to complete three substantive pieces of work at your place of work and produce evidence portfolios that demonstrate your understanding and competence. BRICKLAYER LEVEL 2 If you are interested in becoming a Bricklayer, then a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Bricklaying may just be the course of learning for you. You ll learn how to interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures, producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding, build solid walling, isolated and attached piers and construct cavity walling forming masonry structures. Individual employers will set the selection criteria but typically, you will need grades 3 or above (D or above in the old grade structure) in English and maths. of evidence, attend College one day per week and receive regular workplace assessments in order to assess competency and sit a Functional Level 1 English and maths if you do not have grade 4 (C in the old grade structure). The training duration will be a minimum of 24 months. = Bricklayer = General Builder = NVQ Level 2 Bricklaying The aim of this qualification is to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence demonstrated by an individual in the workplace. The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Brickwork provides the opportunity for individuals who specialise in Brick to demonstrate their competence. PAINTING DECORATING LEVEL 2 If you are interested in becoming a Painter and Decorator, then a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating may just be the course for you. You ll learn how to erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms, prepare surfaces for decoration, produce a specialist decorative finishes, apply paint systems by brush and roller, create colour and apply foundation and plain papers. Individual employers will set the selection criteria but typically, you will need grades 3 or above (D or above in the old grade structure) in English and maths. It would also be beneficial to have some experience in this field. = Painter and Decorator = NVQ Level 2 Painting and Decorating The aim of the qualification is to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence demonstrated by an individual in the workplace. PLASTERING LEVEL 2 This apprenticeship is ideal for anyone who is thinking of working within the construction industry as a Plasterer. It covers a broad range of skills which are put to use on a range of sites, from large building sites to private houses. You ll learn how to apply plastering materials to interiors, fix dry lining and plasterboards to interiors. You will be able to lay sand and cement screeds, apply plastering materials to external backgrounds, produce reverse moulds for fibrous work and cast and fix fibrous plasterwork. of evidence, attend the College one day per week and receive regular workplace assessments in order to assess competency. During the length of the course you will sit a number of exams including Functional Level 1 English and maths if you do not have grades 4 (C in the old grade structure). The training duration will be 24 months. PLUMBING HEATING LEVEL 2 The NVQ Level 2 Plumbing and Heating qualification is designed for anyone who wants to become a Plumber or Domestic Heating Engineer. It provides all the basic domestic heating and plumbing training you need to start work in the industry. Individual employers will set the selection criteria but typically, you will need grades 4 or above (C or above in the old grade structure) in English and maths. = Plumbing & Heating Engineer = Maintenance Operative for large organisations = Bathroom/Kitchen Installer Other = Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering = Install and maintain domestic plumbing and heating systems The training duration will be 24 months. of evidence, attend the College one day per week and receive regular workplace assessments in order to assess competency and during the length of the course sit a number of exams including Functional Level 2 English and maths if you do not have grades 4 (C in the old grade structure). = NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating During the programme you will understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering, apply domestic hot and cold water system installation and maintenance, domestic above ground drainage system installation and maintenance techniques and install and maintain domestic wet central heating systems. The qualification comprises of 5 mandatory units and 1 optional unit. SITE CARPENTRY LEVEL 2 You ll learn how to carry out carpentry maintenance, set-up and operate a circular saw, carry out first fix flooring and roofing, frames, partitions and stairs and second fixing operations.
