Healthcare It is essential that healthcare environments maintain strict hygiene standards. Designed to create an impervious barrier to dirt and bacteria, Gradus is an ideal solution for healthcare applications where cleanliness is imperative. The requirement The Health Building Note 00-09 states: Smooth cleanable impervious surfaces are recommended in clinical areas. Design should ensure that surfaces are easily accessed, will not be physically affected by detergents and disinfectants, and will dry quickly. Additional protection to the walls should be considered to guard against gouging / impacts with bed heads and trolleys. Gradus offers an improved alternative to traditional ceramic tiles and grouting that have been historically used in commercial kitchen environments. The requirement The Food Standards Agency states wall surfaces must be maintained in a sound condition and be easy to clean and, where necessary, to disinfect. This means that wall surfaces need to be made of materials that are impervious (i.e. do not allow fluid to pass through), non-absorbent, washable and non-toxic, and must be smooth up to a height appropriate for the work you do, unless you can satisfy your local authority that other materials are appropriate. Finishing Options Corners, joints, and floor transitions are vital to the overall integrity of a hygienic wall cladding system. A choice of trims, silicone sealant, weld rod and thermoforming are available as solutions to vulnerable junctions. Thermoformed corners (formed on-site during installation) and welded joints provide a seamless finish for the most hygiene sensitive applications. Silicone sealant, as an alternative finish, is quick to install and creates a smooth transition which is easy to clean. Technical Details Performance has been extensively tested to the following standards to ensure suitability in hygienic applications. Test Description Bacterial Tested according to ISO 22196:2011 Food Contact Meets EU Commission Regulation 10/2011 with regard to food contact Fire Tested for reaction to fire according to EN 13501-1 achieving Class B-s3-d0 Impact Tested to BS EN 438-2 that comparatively measures the impact absorption of against standard ceramic tile. The test demonstrates that PVC-u sheet can withstand significantly higher impact without damage occurring. Warranty Gradus offers a 20 year warranty for (details available on request). Chemical Resistance: resistant to most common chemicals, for further details please call Gradus Technical Support on 01625 428922. Maximum Temperature: should not exceed temperatures of 60 C. Storage & Handling: PVC-u sheets should be laid flat at the room operating temperature for 24 hours prior to installation. The wall must be dry and free of dirt, loose paint, wax and grease. Any coatings applied to the wall to improve clean-up may affect the adhesion. All such coatings must be removed and dependent on the substrate, priming may be required.
