TEGOMER AntiScratch 100 Make your plastic tough enough Scratch resistance for PP/talc
Automotive Applications of PP/talc with High Importance of Scratch Resistance Dashboards Interior door panels Page 2
All properties are effected by antiscratch additives Customer s Expectations for Interior Surfaces & Materials are Very High To meet customer s expectations the following parameters for materials need to be fulfilled: Design (color, structure of surface, leather like appearance) Haptic, Touch (soft, hard, sticky, smooth) Durability (is it sensitive to damage by UV light or heat?) Odor free (new car smell vs. new car malodor) No fogging ( smeary window ) The quality impression of the interior determines the quality impression of the total car! Page 3
Door Panels are a Typical Application for Antiscratch Additives Antiscratch properties are needed because Car customers & designers like grained surfaces ( leather style ) These surfaces are very sensitive to scratch, e.g. damages of door panels Industry standards for grained surfaces K 09: strongly grained (standard of VW) K 31: smoothly grained (standard of GM) K 09 Grained surface of VW moulded in our lab Page 4
A Durable Scratch Resistance Ensures a High Perceived Quality An unscratched interior after extensive use Creates a high value brand recognition especially with rental cars or taxis Influences positively the decision when a new cars is bought towards the current brand Allows a higher selling price when a used car is sold Makes it more likely that the customer will buy a new car from the same brand/oem Page 5
Perfect Long Lasting Scratch Resistance for Less than 10 EUR Calculation Amount of PP/talc used in a standard mid size car: 55 kg Thereof PP/talc parts with need for antiscratch properties: 15 kg Amount of TEGOMER AntiScratch 100 needed (at 2%): 0.3 kg = < 10 EUR Families would buy it! As a reliable partner we offer all Standard Tests In-house In-house capabilities Erichsen equipment for evaluation of scratch resistance Moulding devices for grained surfaces (e.g. K09 & K31) Other automotive norms such as Crockmaster or Multifinger scratch tester available We offer our technical equipment and our knowledge in evaluating the scratch resistance of compounds modified with our additives. This can be PP/talc, PP/wollastonite or other polymers. Page 9

Ageing is Crucial to Evaluate Additives for Car Interior Applications Temperatures in summer in a (closed) car after 1 hour in the sun: Dashboard: up to 80 C Head room: up to 70 C Foot space: up to 60 C To simulate the conditions in a car we do the following testing: Scratch resistance test of sample with additives direct after molding Same test with sample that was aged for 7 days at 80 C or QUV test Page 12
Additive with Long Lasting Effect Tackiness after UV Irradiation The PV 1306 test method of VW/Germany is used to analyze interior automotive parts based on PP and PP/Talc compounds regarding their tackiness and migration after UV irradiation (5 x 96 h). without Additive + 3% TEGOMER AntiScratch 100 Q-Sun Xe-1-B + 0.5% fatty acid amide + 3% high molecular amide PP-MAA based TEGOMER AntiScratch 100 does not show any migration and tackiness in the PV 1306 test. It stays in the bulk phase of plastics compounds and provides a long lasting scratch resistance. Page 13
