SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The Gascogne panel is a piece of siding made of stainless or pre-coated galvanized steel with a nominal thickness of at least 1 mm. These panels fit together by their longitudinal edges, and the attachments are no longer visible after installation.(technical drawings nb.1&2+5) This panel is notably used for add-on siding, designed with a vertical or horizontal arrangement of joist between the panels. The macimum recommended span is 1.50 m between supports. This product can be used on new or renovated public or private buildings used for commercial or lodging purposes.(technical drawings nb.3&4) Gascogne siding does not participate in the general stability of the building (no wind bracing or anti-buckling functions). The support wall must provide the strength functions and stability of the façade and meet requirements in the matter of air permeability. TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS Manufacture: by bending (technical drawings nb.1 to 4) Useful width : 300 mm ± 1 mm. FINISHING ELEMENTS They are manufactured from th same plates (same thickness, same quality of material) as the panels in a maximum lengths of 6 m. Various connections (technical drawings nb. 28 to 31) Outside and Re-entrant corners (technical drawings nb.16 to 24) Acroterion crown (technical drawings nb. 6 to 11 ) Flaps (technical drawings nb. 12 to 15 ) Window frames (technical drawings nb.25 to 27 ) ASSEMBLY PRINCIPLE GASCOGNE panels are designed to be installed on a ruled secondary frame allowing a ventilated fiom of air to flow between the panels and the support wall or possible thermal insulation. This frame is to satisfy the requirements of C.S.T.B. Book no. 3194 JanuaryFebruary 2000 - «General conditions for design and implementation of the metal framing and thermal insulation of add-on siding». This secondary frame is a construction element by itself and is not an integral part of the Gascogne process. Nevertheless, proper execution is a condition for the final result, notably as concerns the appearance of the facing. The presence of a secondary framing is systematically required, including in the case of double-skin sinding with metallic plates in internal skin. It serves as bearing and attachment support for the siding. PARTICULAR ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE FRAME No frame alignment of flatness erros can be compensated by the GASCOGNE panels themsleves. The allowable loads and spans of the GASCOGNE panels under normal climatic conditions have been determined by tests considering the following criteria :. Deflections of at most 1/200th of the span for the longitudinal edges. Safety coefficient with respect to ruin greater than 2 For aesthetic considerations, it is also advised to limit the spans to 1.5 m. GASCOGNE panels are installed and attached on metal rails with the following characteristics:. Bearing width of at least 40 mm. The thickness of the secondary frame sections must notably allow construction of assemblies with a minimum characteristic strenght of 300 dan. Normal wind loads allowable on GASCOGNE panels in 10/10ths steel, in dan/m², Pressure & Vaccuum Simple span 2 supports Vacuum Pressure 218 Span in (m) Continuity 3 supports or more Pressure Vacuum 1.50 250 205 1.60 240 193 1.70 230 182 1.80 215 172 1.90 202 115 164 2.00 190 115
Tests carries out on pre-coated steel panels (S320 GD + Z 225) Weight : 16,5 kg/m² For panels in stainless steel, a 20 mm pincer can achieve allowable loads comparable to those of panels in pre-coated steel. CONDITIONING AND TRANSPORT A delivery note is glued to each package stating: Customer order reference, Batch reference Customer name Type of product Facing thickness Bundle content (number and length) Color reference of pre-coated plates. GASCOGNE panels are packed on the production line. The weight of the bundles may in no case exceed 2.5 tons. GASCOGNE panels and their accessories are to be transported under conditions that preserve the integrity of the characteristics (shimmed up packages, carefully stacked and strapped, tarpaulin-covered trucks). ORGANISATION The PMA company is the product manufacturer and does not install the product. GASCOGNE panels are to be installed by constractors having the required professional qualifications. Design and studies prior to executing the facade are not incumbent on the maker PMA nor on the distributor companies. On request, PMA can provide technical assistance. The purpose of the present specification is not to give details on all points of implementation but to state the main technical definitions of the panels and their particular characteristics. To help in the study of the facades, it is complemented in the appendix with particular design suggestions and finishing elements. HANDLING, STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE Handling operations are carried out in consideration of the particular features of the products. They are to be handled vertically on edge. The panels are stored in bundles, slightly inclined in the longitudinal direction on a flat surface, without stacking more than two packags. Storage time on the work site is to be reduced to the minimum. The essential precaution consists in avoiding water from entering by runoff or condensation between the panels. Store sheltered from sunlight. The peel-off protective film covering GASCOGNE panels is to be removed as work advances, at the latest 15 days after shipment.
Metallic facades have to be normally maintainted in accordance with the prescriptions of the Professional Rules for Metallic Siding (article 4-2-91 exterior maintenance). Although naturally cleanable by runoff of rainwater, if needed, they can be cleaned periodically with household detergent, without chlorine added, with no use of abrasive or solvent, followed by rinsing with fresh water. Mainteance notably consists of: Eliminating various vegetation (such as moss) and any incompatible matter that might be deposited on the facing surface. Repair of any localized degradation as soon as detected, such as incipient corrosion caused, for example, by exterior deterioration actions. Cutting and drilling Custom manufacture makes it possible to limit the cutting on the work site. As required, cutting operations on site are performed using the appropriate equipment (jigsaw, nibbler, fine-tooth saw). It is strictly prohibited to use a grinder wheel. Watch out to avoid hot particles from being incrusted on the coating. All dirt (filings, drilling chips, etc...) are to be eliminated immediately. DRAWINGS OF DETAILS OF PRINCIPLE The following drawings are examples of how singular point of GASCOGNE panels are treated. Any other solutions can be considered and studied by the installing contractor in consideration of the specific characteristics of the products.
