Project Summary BACKGROUND: The applicant, Kraft Heinz Company, represented by Allison Miller, proposes a noodle sculpture at the employee entrance of the Kraft Research and Development facility at 801 Waukegan Road. Kraft is proposing a fiberglass noodle sculpture 20.0-feet long and 9.7-feet tall in macaroni yellow mounted to a oval base. The sculpture will be incorporated into landscaping around the base to include Viburnum, Junipers, Grasses and perennials. To make way for the sculpture four (4) trees will need to be removed. The applicant is proposing to install six (6) new trees around the property to include one (1) 3.5-inch caliper Skyline Honey Locust, two (2) 3.0-inch caliper Freeman Maples, three (3) 3.0-inch caliper Swamp White Oaks, one (1) 3.0-inch Accolade Elm, and one (1) 3.0-inch Sugar Maple. The applicant is proposing to illuminate the sculpture with exterior ground mounted LED flood lights. The proposed sculpture is a sign based on the Village of Glenview definition of a sign. In that case the proposed sculpture will need a zoning variance based on size of the sculpture and since there will be two signs along the Waukegan Road frontage where only one is permitted by Code. As part of the Appearance Commission review the Commission should forward detailed comments on to the Zoning Board of Appeals for review at the August 17 th meeting. If the case receives a positive recommendation it will appear at the Village Board of Trustees meeting on September 1 and September 15 prior to being able to install the sculpture.
