That s a challenge when 75 percent of organizations still use spreadsheets for planning, forecasting, and budgeting, especially when it comes to details such as capital assets and capital asset related expenses. Organizations can eliminate this manual and cumbersome spreadsheet process one that can easily be tampered with. With Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning, organizations can improve plan accuracy, predictability, and accountability; encourage collaborative planning efforts; and automate planning processes. Simplify Implementation and Reduce Maintenance Burdens In looking for an alternative to spreadsheets, organizations often develop a customized application to address capital asset planning needs. But, custom applications require time to develop, test, and implement, and ongoing updates and enhancements all of which burden internal IT department. With Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning, organizations can eliminate the expense, extra time, and IT resources needed to develop and support a custom application. Instead, they can begin planning quickly, saving money and IT efforts. Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning provides a framework to begin the capital asset planning process so organizations don t start from square one. Its built-in functionality includes account structures, calculations, smart lists, data forms, dimensions, and menus. Address all Planning Requirements with Customization Capabilities Although Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning provides the most commonly used capital asset planning functionality, some requirements might vary from those included. Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning lets organizations easily modify the application

and the architecture to meet their specific business requirements, rather than modifying processes to adjust to the software. The option to leverage out-of-the-box functionality, modify the application, or completely change it gives the flexibility to use the application as organizations need. Manage Expenses with Prebuilt Functionality and Best Practices Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning allows organizations to easily plan for the addition of new tangible and intangible capital assets. They can also modify existing capital assets with improvements, impairments, and retirements, as well as transfer capital assets from one cost center to another using multiple methods. Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning automatically tracks related expenses, such as the costs of maintenance, repair, and insurance. Depreciation can be automatically calculated by selecting predefined depreciation methods and useful life based on asset type. In addition, actual capital asset data from fixed asset systems can be incorporated into Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning to combine existing capital asset information with budgeted and forecast capital asset information for a complete plan. Assess the Financial Impact of Capital Asset Expenses in Real Time Scrutinizing capital asset decisions is understandable, as they are some of the largest operating expenses and can be a huge investment for an organization. With Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning, the impact of a capital asset purchase on the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement can analyzed. With the composite grid feature, organizations can see the impact of these changes on financial statements, all on a single screen. And because Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning is an integral part of Oracle Hyperion Planning, the impact of capital expenses on general expense plans can be seen in real time, so organizations can take immediate action when necessary. Leverage Existing User Competencies with Microsoft Office Integration Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning enables business users to easily view plans and reports on the web or in Microsoft Office and does not require users to have specialized computer skills. A standard web form allows users to interact with plans. Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning offers comprehensive integration with Microsoft Office tools, such as Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Users can access their planning tasks and due dates within Microsoft Outlook task list and calendar as well as within Microsoft Excel. Users can also view planning data forms from Microsoft Excel without any loss in functionality relative to the web based interface. Both interfaces also support ad hoc analysis of data where rows, column and page dimensions can be pivoted differently to create different views of the same data. Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning lets users take plans offline, and at their own convenience, change assumptions, perform calculations, analyze results, and then connect back to the central database to synchronize updates. Additionally, users can directly integrate data from Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning into Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word. This allows them to quickly create highly customized reports with accurate information and automatically refresh the report when the underlying data changes. The end result is reduced manual intervention, improved data integrity, and increased reporting accuracy. Improve Plan Accuracy, Predictability, and Accountability Achieve greater plan accuracy through prebuilt functionality and best practices that are standard with Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning. Plan accuracy is also improved with dependable security that lets organizations maintain access rights for data, calculations, and global settings. Plans can be easily distributed to decision makers at the operational level without concern that the data and calculations will be incorrectly used. And by involving the operational level in the planning process, organizations obtain first hand input from areas actually incurring the capital expenses for more predictable as well as more accurate plans. All of this means organizations can centralize capital asset planning activities, empower decision-makers at all levels, and hold them accountable for their plans. Gain Dependable Security over Data, Calculations, and Global Settings With Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning, organizations can control the view and modification access for individual planners. For example, they might want planners to have access only to the cost centers for which they are responsible. Modification access can also be safely limited so that only the appropriate planners can add, delete, retire, or transfer capital assets to avoid budget misappropriation. Automate the Planning Process Companies need to eliminate manual steps within the planning process, especially when those steps involve collecting spreadsheet templates, consolidating them, and integrating them with general expense plans. With Oracle Hyperion Capital Asset Planning no consolidation or integration is required, because the application does it all.
