Specifications for Renaissance Masonry Units Developed by Arriscraft International Corporation To be used as a guide for Architectural Specifications Product A calcium silicate building unit produced for use as veneer or load bearing masonry walls for interior or exterior use. Unit Masonry Renaissance Masonry Unit as produced by Arriscraft International Corporation and distributed by Building Stone Products, Inc., an affiliate of Meno Stone Co., Inc., 10800 S. Route 83, Lemont, Illinois 60439 (630-257-9220). A high-density, severe weathering, calcium silicate masonry unit (Portland cement free), pressure formed and autoclaved in the following sizes: RS358 3 5 / 8 high x 23 5 / 8 long x 3 5 / 8 deep RS758 7 5 / 8 high x 23 5 / 8 long x 3 5 / 8 deep RS115 11 5 / 8 high x 23 5 / 8 long x 3 5 / 8 deep Colors are and and shall be located as indicated on drawings. Finishes are and and shall be located as indicated on drawings. Tolerances Flaws or imperfections in the face of the masonry unit must not exceed plus or minus 3 / 8. Fabricate masonry units within the following tolerances: Length of Unit: plus or minus 1 / 16 Height of Unit: plus or minus 1 / 16 Deviation from Square: with measurement taken using longest edge as base: plus or minus 1 / 16 Non-Critical Thickness: plus or minus ½ Critical Unit Thickness: plus or minus 1 / 16 1

Physical Properties Range* of Average Values *Average values are expected to fall within these ranges 80% of the time. Compressive Strength, (Dimension Stone Method, ASTM C170) 5512-7687 psi Compressive Strength, (Brick Method, ASTM C67) 7252-9863 psi Absorption, (ASTM C97) 7.8-9.8% Density, (ASTM C97) 126-132 lb./ft 3 Modulus of Rupture, (ASTM C99) 624-914 psi Mortar Type A Portland cement, Type S hydrated mason s lime, and sand mortar is to be used when setting Renaissance Masonry Units. Proportion by volume should be 1:1:6 (Portland cement/ lime / sand). Installation All product installation is to be completed using proper and approved masonry techniques as listed in the Municipal, State and National Building Codes. Renaissance Masonry Units are not recommended for below grade installation nor should they be used in areas where they will be exposed to de-icing salts or salt-laden snow. Set stones in full beds of mortar with all vertical joints full. Movement joints must be specified by the designer and are generally recommended at the following locations: At changes in wall direction; At changes of building heights; At window and door locations where deemed necessary; At major changes in the thickness of a wall; At periodical lengths of a continuous wall; At abutting of a new structure to an existing structure. Under normal conditions Renaissance Masonry Units do not require pre-wetting for successful wall construction. However, under extremely hot weather conditions, it may be advantageous to use pre-dampened units. Damp units should be nominally saturated but surface dry at the time of laying. A satisfactory procedure for wetting the units consists of letting water run over the cube of units. This should be performed at the end of the previous day in order for product to be ready in the morning, or not sooner than five hours before the units will be used. 2

CAUTION: Renaissance Masonry Units must not be dipped in a bucket of water or sprayed and then laid in the wall. Units must not be randomly hosed, but must be consistently dampened. Cutting of Stone When cutting Renaissance Masonry Units with a wet saw, always pre-wet the units with clean water. A continuous source of fresh water to the saw is required. Cut units should be washed with a stiff fiber brush and thoroughly rinsed with clean water before installation. DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING: Rejection of Defective Stone Inform Architect and Building Stone Products, Inc. upon receipt of any units showing flaws or imperfections greater than tolerances at the storage yard or building site for their review. The Architect may reject the piece or approve its refabrication. Remove rejected units from the site immediately. Finished product inspection is the responsibility of the customer. Arriscraft International Corporation warrants to resupply such defective product only as is brought to its attention, prior to product installation. Material placed in the wall shall constitute product acceptance. Delivery Deliver units to site as required for installation, to meet construction schedule and to locations as directed. Arriscraft International Corporation cannot be responsible for delays due to fire, acts of God, or any other cause beyond its control or which could not be reasonably foreseen. Handling Pack and load units for shipment and unloading at site in a manner to prevent damage. Use no material for blocking or packaging, which would stain or discolor exposed surfaces of the units. Isolate units from contact with ground and other materials until laid, to prevent staining. Lift skids with proper and sufficiently long slings or forks with protection provided, so they are not damaged. Protect edges and corners to prevent damage. 3

Storage Stack units on timbers or platforms at least 3 above grade. Provide necessary means to prevent staining of units during storage. Place polyethylene, or other plastic film, between wood and other finished surfaces of units when stored for an extended period of time. Cover stored units if exposed to the weather for an extended period of time. Do not use salt to thaw ice formed on surfaces of units. Adjustment and Cleaning Brush walls after tooling to remove excess mortar from unit faces as the work progresses. If post-construction cleaning is required, the mason should clean a small area in an inconspicuous place. Before proceeding further, obtain architect s approval. Wash down and brush walls to remove mortar and stains. Use only non-acid detergents and clean water with fiber brushes. Should specified cleaning methods be insufficient, proceed with other methods only with advice from the manufacturer. Do not use wire brushes for cleaning. When using high-pressure water, care must be taken not to damage the unit. In any case, use only a fan-shaped nozzle no closer than 12 to the unit. Sealers are not recommended for use on Renaissance Masonry Units. Protection Protect corners and edges of masonry units that are vulnerable to damage by continuing construction. Protect them by means of wood or other rugged materials secured in a manner that will not damage or stain finished surfaces. Remove protection when, risk of damage is no longer present and without damage to masonry. 4
