Food environment Diet is basically maize, cassava, beans, some vegetables (green leaves) There are numerous cultural taboos (food taboos) Often people sell what they produce, rather than consume Need to strengthen efforts to ensure that production is nutrition sensitive with a focus on diversifying crops challenges remain with regards to farmer access to inputs, to markets, market/price information, the agricultural extension system (too few extensionists), participation of small stakeholders etc. and there is a recognition that these need to be looked at with a "nutrition" lens.
