Proposal for Convergence of NAP & NREGA in Kachchh District : Gujarat Kachchh district of Gujarat state has the largest geographical area 54,652 km 2, which is about 24% of geographical area of the Gujarat State Tree cover : 7.7% Forests Area : 286608.66 ha (5.24 %)

Socio-Economic Profile Human population in Kachchh district : 12.6 lakh with a sex ratio of 964 females per 1000 males. Human population density : 65 persons per km 2 Socio-economically weaker sections 19% of the total population I. Scheduled Caste : 11.9% II. Scheduled Tribe : 7% Rural Population : 69% Urban Population : 31% Literacy rate : 53%, (State average of 61%).

In Kachchh District : Gujarat All the Activities of NAP can be converged with NREGA and funded under NREGA, Because Only two models are being implemented under NAP : Artificial Regeneration Pasture Development Both the activities have more than 60% labour component Entry Point Activities and other overhead expenditure will be covered within 40% material cost. NO Contractor System : But all the Local people have to be employed

Plantation along Coastal highway : 50ha/year 5. Shelterbelt along sea coast : 200 ha/year 2009-10 - Rs 185.00 Lakhs 2010-11 Rs 200.00 Lakhs 2011-12 - Rs 220.00 Lakhs Total- Rs 605.00 Lakhs

Shelterbelt Plantation along Coastal border The coastal border plantations are proposed within the limit of 5.00 km from the sea high tidal line. The talukas covered are Bhachau, Gandhidham,Mundra,Anjar, Mandvi, Abdasa and Lakhapat. The Prosopis juliflora will be removed and planted with indigenous species and Casuarina equisitifolia
