MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET SECTION 1: PRODUCT AND COMPANY IDENTIFICATION Product Name: Sil-Gard Cloth Manufacturer: Federal-Mogul Corporation 26555 rthwestern Highway Southfield, MI 48033 MSDS# BH-056 24hr Emerg # (Infotrac): 1-800-535-5053 International: 001-352-323-3500 n-emerg #: 248-354-9844 SECTION 2: COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS Sil-Gard High Temperature Cloth is composed of pure silica weave, making it very lightweight and highly flexible. It can withstand heat up to 2,300 F in continuous operations, and up to 3,000 F for short-term operations. Used in applications such as welding blankets or furnace curtains, the cloth is chemically resistant and electrically non-conductive. Although several of the ingredients used to formulate this product may be hazardous in the raw state, the manufacturing process results in a solid, infusible form, binding and otherwise, rendering the product inert. The constituents identified below may be present in quantities greater than 1% (0.1% for carcinogens) that may be released from the product by such operations as overheating, burning, machining, abrading, or riveting. This information provides the minimum criteria for safe usage and handling of this product. Companies using this product should develop their own occupational health program to protect employees from injury or adverse health effects. POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS Inhalation: Dust created from abrasion may cause respiratory irritation. Skin: Prolonged contact may cause skin irritation. Eye: Dust particles may cause irritation or corneal injury due to mechanical action. Ingestion: t a probable route of entry. Revised: 06/28/2005 Page 1 of 5

POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS (continued) Carcinogenicity: COMPONENT NTP IARC OSHA Silica, amorphous (fused) When this product which has been in continuous service at elevated temperatures (greater than 1,800 F), it may undergo partial conversion to cristobalite, a form of crystalline silica, which is classified by IARC as a Group 2A carcinogen. The amount of crystalline silica present depends on the temperature and length of service. Symptoms and Effects of Exposure to Selected Individual Components SILICA, AMORPHOUS (FUSED) Inhalation of dust and fibers may cause irritation of the upper respiratory tract. Skin and eye contact could result in itching and temporary irritation. If ingested, it may result in irritation to the digestive tract. Chronic respiratory and/or skin effects may be aggravated by mechanical irritation when this product is used. There are no known health effects associated with chronic exposure to this product. SECTION 4: FIRST AID MEASURES Inhalation: Eye Contact: Skin Contact: Ingestion: Move to fresh air. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Rinse thoroughly with ample amounts of water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Rinse with cool water. Seek medical attention for thermal burn or persistent irritation. t a probable route of entry. This product is inherently flame resistant. SECTION 5: FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Flashpoint: LEL: UEL: Autoignition Temperature: Extinguishing Media: Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Special Fire-Fighting Procedure: Use media type for surrounding fire. ne known Wear self-contained breathing apparatus when extinguishing a fire. SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES If dust is generated during such operations as machining, abrading or riveting, remove the dust by vacuuming or wet-mopping. Vacuums used for this purpose should be equipped with HEPA filters. Do not use compressed air to blow dust from surfaces. SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE If dust is generated during shipping, remove the dust by vacuuming or wet-mopping. Vacuums used for this purpose should be equipped with HEPA filters. Do not use compressed air to blow dust from surfaces. SECTION 8: EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION Ventilation Protection: Respiratory Protection: Skin Protection: Eyes: Any operation which may produce dust, including machining, grinding, riveting, or abrading this product, should be adequately exhausted to prevent inhalation of dust. Use a NIOSH-approved respirator if there is a potential for exposure to exceed applicable PELs or TLVs. (See 29 CFR 1910.134, OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard.) If skin irritation occurs, gloves and other protective garments may be worn. If excessive dust is generated, wear gloves and loose fitting clothing while handling the product. Wear safety glasses or goggles if cutting the material.
