Substrates Suitable Substrates: Substrate pretreatment: Original or old paintwork (except reversible substrates, Example: lacquer) Permacron Primer/Surfacers Permahyd Primer/Surfacers Permasolid Surfacers Degrease and sand. Before further treatment, clean all substrates thoroughly with Permanent Silicone Remover 7010 Slow, Permahyd Silicone Remover 7085, Permahyd or Permahyd Silicone Remover 7096. * Permahyd Silicone Remover 7085, or Permahyd Silicone Remover 7096 must be used for final cleaning. Special note: 1. Allow wet sanded surfaces to dry thoroughly. 2. Plastic containers or tins with special lining must be used. 3. Strainers and glue must be waterproof. 4. Strainer must be 125 150 Micron Nylon Mesh. Application Mixing ratio: 10% Permahyd WT Additive 6050 for solid colors. 20% Permahyd WT Additive 6050 for metallic/pearl colors. Or for low humidity and high temperatures (<30% humidity) 10% Permahyd WT Additive 6051 for solid colors. 20% Permahyd WT Additive 6051 for solid colors. Pot Life: Metallic colors have a 2 4 hour pot life after mixing with Permahyd WT Additive 6050 or Permahyd WT Additive 6051. Afterwards it must be reduced again at the same ratio for optimal metallic control. Solid and pearl colors have an extended pot life of 3 6 months after reduction. Method of application HVLP Approved Transfer Efficiency Please refer to gun manufacturer and local legislation for proper spray pressure recommendations. Spray Nozzle 1.2-1.3 mm 1.3 mm Application viscosity 4mm, As mixed 68 F/20 C, DIN 4 Reducer at 68 F/20 C material temperature 10-20% depending on color 1 ½ coat = 1 full coat 6 to 10 inches from panel, followed by 1/2 coat 10 to Number of coats 14 inches from panel keeping overlap at 75% or greater* (*For metallic orientation) * In addition, a control coat may be applied to colors with high metallic/pearl control to improve color match or flake orientation. * With low opacity colors, it may be necessary to apply one or two more coats after an appropriate flash-off time.
Three-stage andtwotone finishes Hardener For Three-stage and Two-tone colors, hardener can be added to the basecoat. 5% Permahyd Hardener 3080 (Use in Ground Coat only) Do not use Permahyd Hardener 3080 with WT388 Black. Hardener reduced the pot life of Permahyd Hi-TEC Base Coat Series 480 to 45 to 90 minutes. For under hood colors use 10% Permahyd Hardener 3080. Pot life at 10% is 20 minutes. Flash-off time (before clear coat) At 68 F/ 20 C At 140 F/60 Metal Temp. Approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Approximately 10 Minutes. Allow panel to cool to room temp before proceeding. Special Note reducing flash-off time:* Maximum preferred recoat window for Permahyd Hi-TEC Base Coat Series 480 is 72 hours. 1. Small Areas Surface matting can be accelerated by blowing with air diffuser. It is also possible to blow with the spray gun after a waiting time of at least 5 minutes. 2. Larger areas Surface matting can be accelerated by using infra-red or low baking IR medium wave IR short wave cooling time Low baking at 140 F/60 C approx. 4 minutes approx. 3 minutes approx. 5 minutes approx. 10 minutes including heating time * Flash-off and drying times depend on the temperature, humidity, and air flow in the booth, and on the number of coats. The surface must in all cases be allowed to matt completely Further Steps recoat with: Permacron or Permasolid Clear Coats. Permacron or Permasolid VOC Compliant Clear Coats where required.
Special Tips 1) The OEM finish dictates whether a two stage or three stage pearl color (with special ground color) is required. The appropriate ground coat color is given on the formula retrieval system. 2) Permahyd Blending Additive 1050 is recommended to reduce the opacity for blending and for use as a wet-bed for blend panels. 3 Blend-in system: Preparation and application of solid and metallic colors 1. Sand Surfacer (dry with P500-P800 or wet sand with P600-P1000). 2. Thoroughly sand surrounding areas not coated with surfacer using a fine sanding pad 3M 07448 (Gray) or 07745 (Gold). 3. Wash the entire area with Permahyd Silicone Remover 7085, or Permahyd Silicone Remover 7096. 4. Apply one full coat of Permahyd Blending Additive 1050 to the surrounding blend area. 5. Apply Permahyd Hi-TEC Base Coat Series 480 to completely cover the surfaced area, overlapping slightly onto the original finish at ready to spray viscosity. 5. After approximately 15 minutes (or when Surface has completely matted) Permacron 2K Clear Coat, Permacron 2.1 Clear Coat or Permasolid HS Clear Coat may be applied. 6. For additional blending recommendations see TDS 1050. 7. Use of Permahyd WT Additive 6051 is only recommended when temperature is above 95 F and relative humidity is below 30%. Three stage pearl colors: 1. Apply Permahyd Hi-TEC Base Coat Series 480 (ground color) to completely cover the surfaced area, overlapping slightly onto the original finish. Allow ground coat to flash-off. 2. Apply1 ½ -2 coats of ready to spray Permahyd Hi-TEC Base Coat Series 480 (mid coat color) slightly overlapping this area, so that it matches the original finish. 3. For additional blending recommendations see TDS 1050. 4) For information on spray equipment please see Technical Data Sheet No. 905.1. Information on cleaning of equipment and waste management can be found in Technical Data Sheet Nos. 905.0 and 905.2 respectively.
