Scout Shops limited work within the Finance Directorate and are based in Lancing, West Sussex. Chief Executive Programme and Development Marketing and Communications Finance Corporate Services Outline of Role: An exciting opportunity exists to cover a maternity leave and join Scout Shops Limited as a Marketing Manager for a year. You will be based at the Scout Association s Lancing site on the South coast. The role is viewed as central to the development of further innovation and best practice across the spectrum of marketing, ecommerce, social media and CRM management. As part of a team reporting to the Business Development Manager, you will be highly influential in the successful delivery of ambitious and customer focussed business development plans via B2B and B2C channels. The role will be responsible for the generation of new thinking to drive sales and profit growth via effective and innovative marketing activity, particularly via new media channels. Job Description JOB TITLE: Marketing Manager SCOUT SHOPS LTD DIRECTORATE: Finance REPORTS TO: Business Development Manager LOCATION: Scout Shops Ltd, Lancing Business Park, Lancing, West Sussex, BN15 8UG DEPARTMENT: Sales/ Marketing NUMBER OF JOB HOLDERS: 1 DIRECT REPORTS: 1 DATE OF JOB DESCRIPTION: April 2014 TSA RANGE: G (Level 1-5) Competency Level: 3 Functional Relationships with: Internal (The Scout Association and Scout Shops Limited): Heads of Departments, Sales Office, Buying, Finance, TSA Marketing & Communications, Programme & Development and the Managing Director. External: Suppliers/ agencies, designers, printers, customer base and World Scout and National Scout Organisations. 1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB To take primary responsibility for the creation/ implementation of SSL s marketing development strategy which underpins the company s business plans for 2013-2017 and complements TSAs Towards Vision 2018. To cost effectively deliver the SSL marketing plan in line with strategic objectives for 2014/15. To instigate new marketing initiatives to stimulate sales and profit growth within the current financial year and beyond. To deliver cost effective solutions to successful social media campaigns including e mail, search engine optimisation and CRM for both the SSL and WSSL businesses. To ensure the timely production of effective printed material. To offer comprehensive marketing support to the customer base including wholesale customers To consistently review and deliver best practice in sales generation via multimedia, mobile and online/ offline channels. To contribute to the development of future strategic planning and the advancement of sales and profitability for the Scout Shops and World Scout Shop businesses. To measure and report upon all marketing activity and demonstrate effectiveness of campaigns.
2. DIRECTORATE/DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW Scout Shops Ltd (SSL) and World Scout Shop Limited (WSSL) are wholly owned subsidiaries of The Scout Association (TSA). Both businesses return all financial surpluses to TSA to support projects that enhance the lives of many thousands of young people involved with Scouting. With a turnover in excess of 7m in the UK, a product range of 2,000 lines, and 55,000 orders processed and dispatched annually to both a wholesale and consumer customer base, the business provides a fundamental service to the Scout audience both within the UK and globally in terms of the efficient provision of merchandise requirements. The post holder will be expected to engage with all areas of TSA s activities and will be expected to attend regular meetings at Gilwell Park, Chingford 3. To ensure website content is optimised and search engine optimisation techniques are applied to maximise awareness for the business. To contribute to and arrange timely distribution of relevant and effective e mail
campaigns. To utilise available systems/ channels to undertake effective Customer Relationship Management (CRM). To undertake timely market research including customer surveys/ competitor strategy analysis and following review make recommendations to improve business performance. To produce effective, informative and sales led catalogues and flyers in a timely and efficient manner to coincide with delivery of TSA activity e.g. Scouting Magazine. To produce effective copy writing for printed material, websites and promotional activity to stimulate sales. To arrange cost effective photography of merchandise to display product to best advantage for use on websites, promotional activity and printed material. In conjunction with sales and buying colleagues implement regular, timely and relevant communication with both the current customer base and potential new customers. To raise awareness of both the SSL and WSSL businesses to respective memberships and wider audiences. To be aware of market and competitor activity and make recommendations to ensure the business remains the primary source for supplying Scouting requirements. To regularly monitor, analyse and review the impact of all marketing activity and make recommendations to refine to improve the customer experience and sales/ profit impact. To effectively manage the marketing budget to optimise the return on investment of all marketing activity. To develop partnerships both internally and externally to raise the profile of the business and extend awareness / potential new revenue channels. To negotiate supplier funded marketing support/ promotional activity in conjunction with SSL Buying colleagues. To engage with relevant TSA colleagues to ensure SSL activity is complimentary to TSA strategic objectives To attend and participate at external Scouting events including Jamborees. To lead, motivate and coach direct reports. To undertake, from time to time, other matters at the discretion of the Business Development Manager or Managing Director.
6. OTHER INFORMATION Occasional unsocial hours working including weekends / evenings at Lancing and other TSA centres Travel required, including oversees & overnights. What s in it for me? Annual Salary: Starting salary non negotiable at 35,239 which represents Level 1 of Band G. Salaries are paid monthly by direct transfer on or about the 20 th of the month. Overtime is not paid although time of in lieu may be authorised. Hours of Work: 35 hours per week Notice Period: 1 months Location: Scout Shops Limited, Lancing, West Sussex Holiday Entitlement: 25 days per year plus bank holidays.
