communicative work The office of the future focusing on people. concentrated working TEAM.WORK.SPACE focusing on people in pairs what does the office of tomorrow look like? what developments in society, the working environment and technology influence the workplace of the future? At König + Neurath we regularly take a fresh look at these questions. And this is how we create the basis for innovative ideas, products and room concepts. One thing s for sure: the time of universal solutions to furnish every office has passed. There will be variations depending on the industry, company and working processes. And it isn t just the type of activity and the function of the furniture that is most important. it s also the cultural background, personal attitude and individual requirements of the people who work in this environment. alone The fact is that people only feel motivated and perform efficiently if they feel comfortable at their workstation. And that s just as important for individuals as it is for the company as a whole. That s why our ideas and solutions have just one focus: people. passing through This was the basis for König + Neurath s joint project with Michael Schmidt from code2design in Stuttgart to develop the new TEAM.WORK.SPACE concept. it gives people and their office environment exactly what makes the difference in the office of the future: new energy. 6 7

Life is on the move from now on the workplace is up to speed, too. globalisation in order to design the office of tomorrow, you have to take a look at the future. And look at the most important social develop ments from which future changes can be predicted. Several of these megatrends have been defined as a result of researching the future, and five of them have significant effects on the working world. König + Neurath has used these trends as orientation for the design of TEAM.WORK.SPACE. globalisation/progressing technology Companies are working at an increasingly international level and encounter different cultures and philosophies. Digitalisation, the internet, smartphones etc. make it possible to work from anywhere, and to create global networks at almost any time without any problems. Nevertheless the office as a workplace continues to play a key role, because it meets people s needs: in the office, social encounters and information exchange take place in reality rather than at a virtual level. sustainability (Consumer) requirements are on the increase whilst resources are becoming more scarce that means sustainability has to be a deciding principle. People are becoming more and more sensitive to the subject, be it with regard to production, consumption or lifestyle, for instance where health is concerned. Not only do companies have to react to this, they also have to encourage and steer the transformation to secure their own futures. changing lifestyles Lifestyle is what has the greatest influence on the behaviour and needs of people. Both of these can change depending on the phase of life and context at a given time, which means that personal attitudes undergo frequent changes too. Lifestyles are becoming increasingly individual, diverse and flexible which in turn affects the working world. (Source: Society 2020 / Zukunftsinstitut Austria) Demographics Demographic change is a significant factor for the working world. Two distinct phases can be defined for the future: firstly the ageing of society is at the forefront; up to four generations could be working in one company. in the long term there will be less people of working age in total, which increases the need for highly-qualified employees and reduces demand for a workforce with lower qualifications. (Source: Management board of the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation Arbeiten 2030 ) Fight for talents The role of the employee has changed: from the minimum wage earner to the salaried employee to human capital. Companies today have to compete for the best talents. For the first time the attractiveness of the working environment and the way the company is furnished plays the most important role. an office needs to be more than just a workplace. energiser culture identification on the basis of the five megatrends, könig + neurath has worked together with code2design from stuttgart to define the requirements of tomorrow s office. Design no longer just means the desk and its immediate surroundings it means the whole atmosphere. At the core of this is the idea that in future every workstation will be a complex, individual, unique combination of people, space, furniture and technology. And that this combination changes from time to time. Both rational and emotional aspects play a role here. The office needs to provide a facility to work efficiently with an intense level of concentration if necessary at several screens simultaneously. But it also needs to be a place where you can receive information and inspiration from colleagues, where you can feel comfortable and relax. in short: tomorrow s office needs to be a place full of energy. The decisive factors to achieve this are flexible working, a topquality working environment, and employees having more freedom to design their own workstation and environment in both a personal and spatial sense. meaningful The office is all of These: wellbeing QUaLiTy of LiFe exchange of information working effectively s pace For social interaction 12 13

working is being redefined. And now the office is too. individual modular potential For FUrTher DeVeLopmenT with the Team.work.space concept, könig + neurath has implemented the requirements for tomorrow s office with a consistent and integrative strategy. TEAM.WORK.SPACE is the new energy for the office. With building blocks for a working environment that meets the requirements of employees from different generations and also those of companies. TEAM.WORK.SPACE meets all the needs when it comes to pioneering office architecture: + modular The system is made up of static and mobile elements. + individual The user can adapt the environment to suit personal needs. + multi-optional it allows for a variety of working methods and forms. + adaptive The room configuration can be changed to meet new requirements. + development-orientated The system is open to accommodate the working methods of the future. + space for creative work Areas with enough space and technology so that you can have good ideas and put them into practice. + emotionally As a result of the design and functions, it is possible to create an environment where people feel comfortable. + sustainable The furniture modules are manufactured in processes that conserve resources as much as possible, and use environmentallyfriendly, recyclable materials. Furthermore they are particularly robust and durable. + smart it is easy to integrate technology and adapt it to on-site conditions. new ways of designing offices it used to be the case that the key point of all considerations was the architectural parameters the bottom line was: how much space do we need? Today it is increasingly a matter of the emotional situation: what type of space do we need? For the design of tomorrow s office that means we can t just look at the desk and its immediate surroundings, we have to think of the workplace as a whole. emotional smart BeTTer concentration Team.work.space. + ergonomic it promotes health and reduces stress. + space for concentrated working There are zones that are screened off for individual working, where you can think, research, write + space for communicative work Areas for team and group work provide an opportunity for exchanging ideas, brainstorming or meetings. exchange of information sustainable multi-optional adaptive communicative working 16 17

hot Desk passing through Team.work.space. Workstations that include lifestyle, pulse and success. Think.Tank in pairs Team area communicative work communicative work Giving presentations, presenting arguments and having debates, developing ideas together and finding solutions teamwork needs enough space, the necessary technology, effective acoustic screening and an inspiring environment. TEAM.WORK.SPACE has great potential for these things too: The Team area is open, vital, happening and dynamic. you can include mobile elements here, which gives you versatile design potential. you can network this system with other products and solutions from König + Neurath to extend it in a practical way: The Think Tank for up to three people is a room-within-a-room that forms a centre for concentrated working in small groups. And in the work Lounge part of the NET.WORK.PLACE system the atmosphere is relaxed and lends itself to communication and recharging with new energy. creative working Furthermore anyone aspiring to creative flights of fancy at work on their own or as a group will be supported in all senses by TEAM.WORK.SPACE: they can let their thoughts run free undisturbed in the silent area. Or sit at the work Desk with their team partner for a brainstorming session, sort out ideas together, research supplementary information and formulate/implement the result through concentrated working. The ideal complement is the Think Tank as a room-within-aroom complete with presentation technology and the inspirational Creative Room from the NET.WORK.PLACE system. silent area concentrated work Alone, in pairs or in a group. Permanent or temporary. With presentation technology or without. Today s working is flexible, exciting, multi-faceted. And TEAM.WORK.SPACE creates exactly the right environment for any working method. Concentrated working To concentrate at work in a personal environment alone or in pairs you need a place that is thoroughly protected from audible and visual intrusion, yet where you do not feel cut off from your surroundings. This is where TEAM.WORK.SPACE offers solutions for different requirements. The silent area is the comfortable area of relaxation that can be used for reading, thinking and studying at the appropriate times. The work Desk serves as a permanent workstation; a personal place that is screened off for privacy. The hot Desk can be used on a spontaneous basis people who are passing through can use it on a temporary basis. They just have to sit down and it s ready to go. work Desk alone work Desk alone

hot Desk passing through Think.Tank in pairs Team area communicative work The bridge that links people: our ebridge for new energy in the office. The amount of technology that has to be accommodated at your desk is always on the increase computers, chargers, lighting... König + Neurath has created a connecting element in the form of the ebridge a bridge from one desk to another, from one person to another. Not only can you route cables and stow chargers here, or add on various desking configurations you can also add storage, whiteboards, monitors or lighting as attachments combined and arranged exactly as they are required for individual workstations. The ebridge also offers huge benefits for companies: at least four workstations can hook into the single power supply. This means that even furnishing for existing buildings can be brought up to modern standards without making structural changes or tripping over a tangle of cables in corridors and on the floors. work Desk alleine alone 21 22 23

ebridge. ebridge There is just one floor box providing power for four workstations this ensures that the mains supply is guaranteed over the entire length at every point. This means that the initial installation is very easy to carry out because the ebridge is simple yet flexible to assemble. And modifications can also be carried out at a later date without disrupting workstations: power cables are accessible at all points from the sides of the ebridge. 24 25

work Desk total concentration for top performance. Working with plenty of space in all dimensions. Hitting on ideas, putting them in order, gathering them together, formulating them the Work Desk is the place in the office where people can work in a focused way, either alone or with a partner. There s plenty of space here for digital equipment such as PCs or Thin Clients and monitors. There is also a special rail where at least two monitors per workstation can be attached to make work more efficient. But there is plenty of room to accommodate storage for all the things that give a workstation its individual character. When you sit at the Work Desk, you re in your own area, visually and acoustically screened off. That gives you a sense of security and comfort. yet you are never isolated you re always part of an open, vital environment: the screen, whose height and geometry are designed to cope with the visual range and angle, provide privacy on the one hand but also enough space to admire the view and not feel enclosed. in this way the Work Desk promotes concentrated work, respectful attitudes towards other employees and a communicative atmosphere. A Work Desk can be used as a permanent or temporary workstation. 2050 950 200 1545 390 800 600 690 500 1515 1230 640 640 600 800 1000 200 315 26 27

Team area release energy in the office. More dynamics for shared ideas. inspiration is no coincidence. it comes from impressions and experiences, from the environment and the atmosphere, from other people. The Team Area provides space for team-based working and freedom for the necessary creativity: people can use this area when they need, and design it as they need. There are mobile elements, sitting/standing furniture items, full digital networking and no boundaries between the Team area and its surroundings. Here, the team is right where it s all happening, everyone can take in all the impressions, inspire others and be inspired by them, share their ideas with colleagues. Team Area is the pulsating centre of teamwork in the office. Open, dynamic, vital. 28 29

hot Desk the power station for people passing through. Just sit down and go. Whether it s used for employees who are only in the office occasionally or visitors who drop in. For someone with a spare moment between two meetings, or just to check something quickly: the Hot Desk is the ideal place to work spontaneously, in a concentrated, efficient way. Not only is it fully networked, it s also not at all complicated, because the whole thing from the task chair to the technology is absolutely intuitive to use. Sitting here, people always feel as though they re at their desk even though it s just a temporary arrangement. The Hot Desk fulfils requirements such as maximum flexibility, sophisticated ergonomics and a modern working environment. 32 33

Silent Area right in the middle of the office, yet a secluded zone. An oasis of calm where you can recharge your batteries. Every office needs an area that gives you a calm, relaxing atmosphere. Where you can withdraw to think without being disturbed, collect your thoughts or just switch off. The Silent Area can offer all this. It s more like a living room than an office space: generously proportioned and with a muted atmosphere, you can feel at home there. Just like in a library there are books, newspapers and screens for relaxation and diversion. Mobiles are on silent, nobody has to be contactable here. You can be together with others, yet alone. The Silent Area is the office charging point, where employees can recharge their batteries in a calm atmosphere. 36 37

Think.Tank the room-within-a-room. Concentrated working in an open atmosphere. A self-contained room within the Open Space? With the Think Tank it s anything but a contradiction. Up to three people can meet here for quiet thought, or for meetings, brainstorming sessions, discussions and presentations. The Think Tank has everything you need: it is acoustically insulated and soundabsorbing, and has its own lighting. If required, media technology can be installed. 38 39
