TANGAROA COLLEGE application process 1. Method of application Applicants should complete the application forms (personal and professional profiles) and enclose their curriculum vitae and a copy of their current practising certificate. Please note that applications must be received by the advertised date and time, at Tangaroa College, PO Box 61 476, Otara, Auckland 2159 (Haumia Way, Otara). Receipt of application information will be acknowledged by either post or email. 2. Referees Candidates are to provide in their application form the names, addresses and contact details of three (3) referees. Three referee report forms are included in the pack. The box on the front page is to be completed by the applicant before forwarding these to the referees named. To ensure confidentiality the completed referee reports are to be returned directly to the Principal of Tangaroa College. All three referees reports should arrive by Tuesday, 24 October 2017 4.00pm. 3. Appointment process The Principal will facilitate the appointment process. The Board of Trustees will complete the short-listing process and will advise the successful applicants when interviews are to take place. Page 2 of 32

TANGAROA COLLEGE POSITION TITLE : DEPUTY PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLE TO : The appointee is responsible to the Board of Trustees as represented by the Principal. TENURE : Permanent Primary Objectives: 1. To support and work with the Principal in achieving the goals and objectives of the school 2. To provide effective leadership and a professional example within the school and the given area of responsibility. Key Tasks: 1. To act as a role model within the school 2. To be visible in the school (in classrooms and playground) as a leader 3. To promote and maintain the culture of the school according to the school charter by affirming and celebrating success at all levels 4. To provide professional and instructional leadership for staff 5. To ensure delivery of a balanced curriculum in line with the National Curriculum Framework and to maintain programmes of assessment and reporting of student progress. 6. This involves willingness to consult and discuss with the principal before difficult decisions are made so that public support for decisions is evident from all members of the SLT. Notes: The appointee will be a member of the school s Senior Leadership Team which consists of two other deputy principals, associate principal and the principal. The portfolio areas allocated to the appointee can be negotiated according to the appointees experience, skills and expertise. The senior leadership team re-allocate portfolios annually (or as required) in accordance with the school s strategic and annual plans. All senior leaders take responsibility for monitoring and supporting achievement in a number of curriculum areas as they act as coaches and mentors for curriculum heads of learning and one year level as they work closely with the year level dean to support pastoral care and academic mentoring. In addition to leadership responsibilities there will be some classroom teaching responsibilities, usually one line of the weekly timetable (4 periods per week), however this can vary term by term according to the needs of the timetable. Please note that the appointee may be required to teach outside their normal curriculum area. In terms of teaching the DP is a member of the learning area and undertakes all planning, teaching, marking and reporting responsibilities as determined by the head of learning. The SLT meet regularly during the week as a group and during school holiday breaks to carry out planning and other tasks. This is a requirement of the role. Page 5 of 32
