Overview. Prior to reviewing this training document, it is recommended that you review: a. VIT N4 Basic Training Document. This Basic Documentation will explain how to navigate the VIT N4 software. b. VIT N4 Web Training Document. This training document explains what items are displayed when you use the unit inspector. The unit inspector can be used as a gateway to update data. How to add, delete or edit information is covered in other training documents. 3. This document is an overview of the basic steps necessary to perform a task. It is not a compressive step by step guide. 4. How to show Unit Inspector. An inspector is a tool for viewing detailed information about an entity from the perspective of your facility.. To display an Inspector: a. D b. select Inspect <entity name>, where <entity name> is the name of the entity such as train, vessel visit, bill of lading, or truck visit. 3. In addition, you can use the following options to display the Unit Inspector: a. Click in the upper right corner of the SPARCS N4 application window. b. Select File Inspector Launcher. c. In the Inspector Launcher form, enter all or part of the equipment ID that identifies a unit. 5

Unit Inspector: Definition The Unit Inspector displays the details of the selected unit and enables you to perform various actions on it. The Unit Inspector provides a view of all aspects of the selected unit from the perspective of the facility in the current scope. You can keep the Unit Inspector open at all times as you work in other views and forms, and you can move and resize it as needed. When you update the selected unit, SPARCS N4 automatically refreshes the information displayed in the Unit Inspector. To view the updates performed by other users or XPS, click 8
Unit Inspector: Area 3 4 5. The left area label identifies the Type of unit. The middle area displays the Status 3. The right area displays Transit information 4. The Drop Down arrow displays the Details pane 5. The Actions tab displays a menu of options you have permission to perform 9
Unit Inspector: Area - Links The Unit Inspector displays the following values as links (blue and underlined) that you can click to access the corresponding form or Inspector:. Unit Number or Equipment Number: The equipment number link opens Equipment Inspector.. Order Number if present (booking, EDO, ELO, or ERO): The order number link opens Booking Inspector, EDO Inspector, ELO Inspector, ERO Inspector 3. Hazard details may be viewed when the Hazards link is selected. 4. Selecting the truck license number hyperlink will open Truck Visit Inspector If you want to add the selected unit to the Units: My List view click the my list symbol shown below in Unit Inspector. 0
Unit Inspector: Type 3 4. The left area identifies the Type of unit a. Container for container units b. Chassis for chassis units c. Bundle for bundled equipment d. and so forth. The area displays the Unit Nbr and basic type. For example, if the unit type is container, the area displays the container number and the ISO type code for the container. 3. If the unit is on a chassis, the left area also displays the Equip Nbr of the chassis. 4. When you access the Details pane, SPARCS N4 displays the chassis information on the Primary Equip tab
Unit Inspector: Status. The central area displays the transit state, position, last move, freight kind, line operator, weight, special stow code, equipment order number, bill of lading number, and if configured the flex fields.. For a unit with hazardous cargo, SPARCS N4 displays Hazards as a link that you can click to open a small pop-up window with details of the hazardous items, such as the explosive class, UN number, and proper shipping name.
Unit Inspector: Status Bill of Lading When a unit is associated with one bill of lading, SPARCS N4 displays the BL Number as a link in the Status area as shown below. However, if a unit is associated with multiple bills of lading, SPARCS N4 displays the BL Number of one of the BLs and adds a + at the end to indicate multiple BLs, as shown below. 3
Unit Inspector: Transit The area on the right provides information about how the unit will move (or has moved) through the facility. It includes the category, if the container is a restow, port of discharge, inbound carrier visit, outbound carrier visit (intended and actual), timestamps of key events, and other information. 4
Unit Inspector: Transit If the outbound carrier operator, such as the trucking company or the line operator, is known, SPARCS N4 displays it in parentheses after the carrier ID as shown in the graphic below In this example, the outbound carrier for the unit is a truck, with the ID T70, and trucking company MJF. 5

Unit Inspector: Details pane Definition. To display the Details pane click the down arrow. From the list on the left, select the type of information to display. 3. List of options is based on your privileges 7
Unit Inspector>Details pane>all Equipment. To display the All Equipment detail click on the tab.. The All Equipment tab displays all pieces of equipment, such as chassis or accessories, associated with the unit 3. The All Equipment tab also displays pieces of equipment previously attached to the unit but later detached or unbundled from it. 8
Unit Inspector>Details pane>bill of Lading. To display click on the tab.. The Bills of Lading tab displays the bill(s) of lading associated with the selected unit. You can assign new bills of lading, and delete associated bills of lading for the selected unit on this tab. 3. If you double-click a record in this tab, SPARCS N4 displays the Bill of Lading Inspector for the selected bill of lading. 9
Unit Inspector>Details pane>contents. To display click on the tab.. The Contents tab displays commodity, cargo weight, reefer requirement, OOG information, and hazardous cargo details, if any Start END 0
Unit Inspector>Details pane>damages. To display click on the tab.. The Damages tab displays damages, if any, associated with the selected visit of the primary equipment, not including damages to chassis or accessories.
Unit Inspector>Details pane>data Sources. To display click on the tab.. The Data Sources tab displays the data source, such as local user, the last update time and date, and the user ID for updates made to the unit's category, routing, outbound carrier, freight kind, or weight.
Unit Inspector>Details pane>declared Goods. To display click on the tab.. The Declared Goods tab displays the details of the goods and documents associated with the selected unit. 3. Customs-related documents may be received before, during, or after the unit arrives at a facility. 4. Full containers may or may not have associated documents. 3
Unit Inspector>Details pane>history, Events. To display click on the tab.. The History, Events tab displays the events recorded for the selected entity such as unit, container, chassis, accessory, vessel visit, train visit, bill of lading, or an order (booking, EDO, or ELO). 3. To view the details of an event, double-click the event or use the Action Show Details option. 4
Unit Inspector>Details pane>history, Move. To display click on the tab.. The History, Move tab displays the completed moves for the primary equipment in the unit. You cannot add, edit, or delete any records from this tab. 3. The Carrier column displays the ID of the carrier to or from which you move the unit. 4. For example, for a Load or a Discharge move, the carrier is the vessel on which you load the unit or from which you discharge the unit, respectively. Similarly, for a Receive or a Deliver move, the carrier is the truck. 3 5
Unit Inspector>Details pane>holds/perms. To display click on the tab.. The Holds/Perms tab displays the holds/permissions for the selected entity such as unit, container, chassis, accessory, vessel visit, train visit, bill of lading, or an order (booking, EDO, or ELO). 6

Unit Inspector>Details pane>holds/perms Hold/Permissions Details View. You can see the details of the Status, Action and Involved Entities.. You can see the Affected Event types. Events which can not occur until the Hold/Perms is resolved. 8
Unit Inspector>Details pane>itinerary. To display click on the tab.. The Itinerary tab displays the itinerary of the facilities in a complex for the selected unit. Typically this is one facility, unless a unit is moving between facilities in a complex per a facility relay. 9
Unit Inspector>Details pane>observed Placards. To display click on the tab.. The Observed Placards tab displays the placards observed during the inspection of a unit at the gate. 30

Unit Inspector>Details pane>reefer. To display click on the tab.. The Reefer tab displays reefer requirements for the primary equipment in the unit 3. If the primary equipment of the unit is not a reefer, SPARCS N4 does not display this tab. If no reefer requirements the tab does not show. 3
Unit Inspector>Details pane>routing. To display click on the tab.. The Routing tab displays the inbound and outbound routing information for the unit such as the port of load, port of discharge, additional ports of discharge, inbound and outbound carrier visits, including declared and actual carrier visits, and any applicable impediments. 33
