MY OCCUPATIONAL FUTURE. Your Career Opportunities BIOTECHNOLOGY IS ONE OF THE KEY TECHNOLOGIES OF THE 21ST CENTURY AND IS REGARDED AS A DRIVER OF ECONOMIC GROWTH. MEDICAL BIOTECHNOLOGY IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT APPLICATION AREAS. AUSTRIA HAS DEVELOPED INTO A STRONG (START-UP) LIFE SCIENCES LOCATION, PARTICULARLY IN THE VIENNA REGION WITH THE RENOWNED VIENNA BIOCENTER (VBC). > FOR NEW TREATMENTS AND THERAPIES IN MEDICINE < > In the master degree program you will be trained to be a specialist with entrepreneurial skills in the field of molecular biology and human-oriented biotechnology. The focus is on immunology and drug discovery. You will study the causes and effects of illnesses and diseases and learn to develop new processes and therapies. > You will study at the prestigious Vienna BioCenter, one of the leading international biomedical research centres worldwide and the prime location for life sciences in the Central European region, comprised of educational, research and business institutions, including several internationally successful biotech companies. More than 1000 scientists from more than 40 nations help to create a highly dynamic research and teaching environment at an international standard. > In your job you will work independently on scientific projects and in management positions. After sufficient experience, you will be well-equipped to start your own business. You will have excellent career prospects in medical and pharmaceutical research and diagnostics, as well as in medical and veterinary research. You will also be in demand in a professional, controlling or testing function at public institutions. Your Personal Challenge > You have a molecular biological understanding of the processes of life as well as knowledge of chemistry and are interested in the diverse range of questions in research. > You are motivated, reflective and persevering. You question existing solutions and are looking for new directions in science. In the lab you show yourself to be skilled and are someone who pursues innovative impulses. > HIGHLY QUALIFIED THROUGH RESEARCH COMPETENCE <
MY EDUCATION. Molecular Biotechnology > What is Special About Your Studies? THE MASTER DEGREE PROGRAM IS UNIQUE IN AUSTRIA AND COMPRISES SELECTED MOLECULAR BIOLOGY TOPICS. THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN MOLECULAR BIOTECHNOLOGY, IMMUNOLOGY AND DRUG DISCOVERY AS WELL AS APPLICATION-ORIENTED RESEARCH PLAY A CENTRAL ROLE IN THE DEGREE PROGRAM. > After a one-semester introduction phase you will choose one of two electives: immunology or drug discovery (Electives are subject to availability a selection process may apply). Other lecture courses include stem cells, human genetics/genetic testing, tumour biology, bioanalysis and molecular pathology. > You can undertake the project work for your master thesis at prestigious partner research institutes in Vienna or abroad or you can participate in our own research projects in immunology or drug discovery. > You will consolidate your knowledge in various laboratory courses. In addition, you will extend your professional radius with knowledge management, communication, bioethics, and you will gain know-how on founding a business and strategic business management. > Your lecturers include experts from partner institutions including the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna as well as the most important pharmaceutical and biotech businesses in the Vienna region. > STUDY IN VIENNA IN THE HEART OF EUROPE < Your Goals AFTER GRADUATION YOU WILL BE QUALIFIED TO IMPLEMENT YOUR EXTENSIVE KNOWL- EDGE OF MODERN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW MEDICAL PROD- UCTS, PROCESSES AND THERAPIES OR TO UNDERTAKE A DISSERTATION AT A UNIVERSITY. > You will have mastered the molecular biological techniques required to diagnose the causes of diseases at an early stage and to develop new drugs and vaccines. You will be familiar with the latest developments in genetic diagnosis, gene therapy and stem cell therapy. > With your in-depth communication skills in English you will be able to participate in international discourse with experts. > TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS FOCUS ON BIOMOLECULES <
