Forestry and the wood industry in the UK an introduction The UK has long enjoyed a productive relationship with its forests and woodlands. The role of EGGER in the wood industry Founded back in 1961, EGGER proudly remains a family-owned business. Today, that relationship extends to a diverse range of interested parties, including forest owners, forest management companies, saw mills and product manufacturers. It also encompasses somewhere in the region of three million hectares of forest or around 13% of our total land area. Currently the UK harvests in excess of 10 million tonnes of timber each year, a figure that is forecast to rise over the next 15 years, before falling back thereafter. The harvest includes timber taken from woodlands which are owned by both the state and private proprietors, and involves a broad spectrum of organisations which provide the necessary forest management, harvesting and marketing services. The rising demand for UK-grown wood is supported by a substantial industry which produces sawn timber, panel boards, paper and energy. UK-based wood users have, over the past 10 years, invested over 1 billion. It is an investment that will ensure a buoyant, efficient and sustainable timber-growing sector for years to come. Over the years the company has been successfully moulded into one of Europe s leading suppliers of wood-based solutions, boasting 17 plants across Europe and 23 sales offices all over the world. EGGER also employs more than 7,200 people, with an annual turnover in excess of 2.2 billion, and production capacity for wood-based materials of over 7.5 million m 3. A proportion of materials are supplied by EGGER Forestry, a wholly owned subsidiary of EGGER (UK) Holdings Ltd, which harvests over 500,000 m3 timber per year from operating sites throughout Scotland and northern England. EGGER Forestry also supplies to a broad spectrum of roundwood customers across the UK and Europe. The forest products are transformed at the EGGER plants into a comprehensive range of products for use by the furniture, interior design, wood construction and flooring industries. The company s stated objective of creating more from wood is based on constant monitoring, improving our performance and by preserving our independence. It is achieved by sustainable international growth, providing customers with innovative solutions and by offering the market first-class products and services. Above all, however, it is made possible by one natural and renewable material. Wood. James Jones and Sons Ltd. 02 03

The future is EGGER Forestry For several years now we have believed there has been a need for new thinking in forestry and a fresh approach required to the entire supply chain. So much so that we have created within EGGER Forestry, a dedicated management service. EGGER Forestry provides the full range of professional forestry services giving greater choice to forest owners. EGGER Forestry is built on the solid foundations of a 25 year track record in harvesting and marketing of forest products, backed by the financial stability of a successful parent company. Thanks to the extensive personal experience of our managers, the company is also able to implement excellent planning strategies and provide informed decision-making capabilities. By improving relationships with growers and strengthening links in the supply chain, the aim of our new company is to provide a professional and reliable service that will be of genuine benefit to all parties. 04 05

EGGER forestry guiding principles By working in partnership we understand your objectives and can help to realise your goals. The company operates autonomously and only ever takes decisions based on the best interests of an individual client, regardless of the interests of any other EGGER concerns. The company s portfolio of services incorporates bespoke management packages, harvesting, marketing and investment. We continue to progress by using state-of-the-art technologies and adopting innovative forest practices, providing the client with value for money. We are fully committed to health and safety and as a founder member of the Forest Industry Safety Accord (FISA) we strive for continuous improvement to make the forest a safer place. The environment is important to us all and to minimise the risk and our impact, operations are managed to meet the requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 environmental standard. We are committed to sustainable forest management and offer Forest Certification to woodland owners. With quality being a core value of the EGGER Group, all forestry operations meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. Key to the success of our business is our investment in people, and their continued professional development. 06 07
